    Sorry to burst your bubble...but your budget set aside for the whole tank set up is insufficient. Perhaps you want to save first or you may want to consider a 3x2x2.

    Hi...

    No expert here. I doubt if you can even buy 5ft x 2ft x 2ft tank for 800 dollars..good quality stuff that is...

    And you mention DIY CO2...I think that's a tough proposition altogether.

    3ft very2 tight but maybe 2x2ft tank can? Or a 2ft wif cabinet like the ones at Nature. Cost ard $300. I got 1.

    My setup n cost. 2ft wif cabinet from Nature.
    Tank-$300
    Filter-Eheim 2222=$150.
    Lighting-2x36w pl=$120.
    Co2 wif regulator n solenoid=$240.
    External reactor=$68.
    Electrical accessories + timer=$70.

    Total as u can see is $948, over your budget by $148. This is not including;

    Jbl fert=$16.
    Lonestar Gravel=$25.
    Plants=$50.
    Eheim Installation Set 1=$35.

    Well, 1 things for sure, i'm not gonna get the co2 tank, thats gonna be DIY, i'm gonna go for overhead layered power filter and i just went recce-ing just now. Got hold of a 4x1.5x1.5ft tank with stand for like 140 bux. 8mm glass, kinda ok i guess. I'll budget everything. Haha. Don't worry guys. I'll show u a picture once i get the tank up and running.

    DIY for a 4ft tank will be quite tough, output being rather inconsistent. Worst I understand overhead filter will lead to further CO2 loss, so you should pick low demand plants. I hope your tank comes with centre brace, 8mm for 4ft is really pushing it.[:0]

    For 800, I think you can setup a 3ft plant tank w/o much problem.
    Bow tank with cover & 3 lights & buildin overhead filter cost around $450 -500. CO2 for small cylinder now selling around $100-$150 (many fish shop selling) with solenoid and diffuser.

    Buy the old type of Eheim canister 2213 etc cost you only $85.

    Add in sand , fert...etc should cost you around $800 or even less.
