just started the hobby, with a 2 weeks old 10-litres nano tank.
the habitants are 5 small cardinals and 10 CRS living in harmony.

Only shrimp safe fish is Otocinclus. Anything else can and will eat shrimp AND shrimplets. You can find more info at the Invertebrates section.
Ask people like jojoe and silane.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
They don't really breed _all_ that fast.
What type of shrimp do you have? Malayans and Cherries are the fastest breeding of the two commonly available shrimp species.
I'd say you would see shrimplets in about 2 months if you have enough of them are they're not that picky about tank conditions as long as its not terrible.
Yamato shrimp won't breed in tanks because the shrimplets need saltwater to survive.
CRS don't breed all that quickly either.
just get small fish and dont get too much of them eg. ember tetra. With enough hiding places cardinals or similiar sized fish should be fine with shrimps. just be sure to add some moss. But to breed shrimp it is not advised to keep them with fish as they will get stressed out and shrimplets are likely to be eaten
Cheers,
JJ
In a heavily planted tank with lots of moss and hiding places will allow some to continue to breed although the population will be "under control" by the fishes
I keep some taiwan fire red shrimp in my community tank with apistogramma, german ram, ember and ruby tetras, otto and corydoras. I can see them breed but population is kept small by the fishes. I feed the fishes well so they don't seem interested in the bigger shrimp.
I witness yamato attacking wood shrimps, black tetra, golden tetra, cardinals, otocinlus, etc. Can't say the same for cherry.
The wood shrimps are twice to thrice the size bigger than the yamatos.
yamato are bigger in size. if you are having other shrimps like cherries or crs they won't bother the fishes, but if you don feed your fishes they may turn to your shrimps. i have planted tank with shrimps and ember tetras, they don't take a second look at each other. but cardinal is too big, not advisable.
i have a 26 liters tank just changed from 10 liters not long. Had a lobster brown in color (just died), 7 mollies, and a albino pleco mid size. So i wanted to put some blue shrimps in the tank but will my molly eat them??
need advise
