Re: Rebirth of an old idea - RE-Scape time.

    WAhahahaha..its been what? 5mths?

And i haven't even taken the tank down yet.

But!! i found my base soil!! wahahaha..

Heard from Navanod that NA sells lava chips.. going to explore this option.
I think it'll work well with what i have in mind.
As expected, i'm going to use them as base for scaping in this tank so i might need a whole bunch.
Might smash some to even smaller bits, almost powder form.
From past experiments in smaller tanks, the mineral content in these rocks are AWESOME!! Great for a low tech tank. Moss love it.
And yes... this will be a low tech tank... and it will progress as slowly as this thread..haha..
Or if i need to rush for a competition... i might change my mind later and up the growth with co2..but.. thats a later question.
Now...i must explore the feasability of this base, i suspect it'll give me the exact "chunky" look i'm looking for.

Re: Rebirth of an old idea - RE-Scape time.

Wahahaha!!! Its better to take your time than to rush!

Erm, as mentioned, these chips are VERY HARD so I'm not sure how you're going to smash them somemore. But there were alot of powder at the bottom of the bag and mixed amongst the chips, creating a dust cloud as I pour them out. Ended up washing them all off, but if you want the powder, just don't wash

Mineral content?? I thought they're inert and would not affect the water? They are supposed to be used as mech filter media for pond or in tanks with high waste loads in place of the normal media

Can't wait to see what you have planned

Those lava rocks are good for bacteria cultivation. I being looking for it for sometime, had chance to find lave chips when i was talking to Chan on where to source for lava chips and he showed me what he have. Those are really good stuff, Eheim brand some more, selling at half market price due to supplier clearing stock. Without any hesitation i bought some.
