    Hi,
we got some gobies from Thailand, they were traded as Rhinogobius chiangmaiensis. Size actually about 6cm.

I´m not so sure about genus / species.
Please note the very big mouth...

Posted this question over at petfrd, too, but I guess we are stuck there.
Maybe someone here has kept them already or is able to identify them.

So long, and thanks for all the fish (Douglas Adams)

    Hi Andreas,

I took the clue posted by Stuporman over at Petfrd and did some digging around. From this paper on Eugnathogobius and Pseudogobiopsis, by the goby expert Helen K. Larson:

    http://rmbr.nus.edu.sg/rbz/biblio/57/57rbz127-181.pdf

I believe what you have there, is probably Eugnathogobius siamensis. Perhaps you can send a letter with the pictures attached to the address listed for Helen on that paper, and see if she can identify it.

    Hi Andreas,

You're welcome. I hope Mrs? Larson will have the proper ID for you soon.

waldo, you really need to post your own thread.

Try Belonesox belizanus, the Pike Livebearer. Or you can try and find a Luciocephalus pulcher, or what we call here as Pikehead. There are some piscivorous cichlids that you might want to have a look at. Though I think in a 10 gallon tank, you probably can't keep a predatory fish. Maybe a Leaf Fish or a Ctenopoma might work.

Stormy, look abit like mud skippers. I came across some whilst trekking along Pasir Ris resort towards Pasir Ris playground (PA Resort). Too bad I don't have a camera phone last time..ha ha. But I didn't notice blue eyes.

Could it be from the Tridentiger complex judging from the head shape and big mouth. As to the exact species name, i'm not sure about that. Amazing photos once again!

Okay, lets skip the mud skipper thingy.

I went through the gobies list and did not find any golden/brownish like ones.

Fish base have catalogued this fish.

Really doesn't resemble the one in the photo.

Unless you know thai language and can search in thai, google and image google will give you very very limited information on this fish.

Thank you friends for so much feedback!
For sure the fish was wrong labeled as Rhinogobius chiangmaiensis.
In the meanwhile, I got another id as Eugnathogobius siamensis, just like stormhawk suggested above.

These are only visible when photographed with flashgun.

Thank you for now and a happy new year
