Hi, try by tie it to an heavier object like rock or something, and let it sink in/absorbing the water for a few day, it will likely hood sink for the rest of it time in that tank till you dry it

But you might want to take note of this, when the wood is absorbing the water, the air in the wood will run/float out with the ashes and dirt (as mud, dust), it will dirty you water, to prevent it you might want soak you wood out of you tank or so to monitor the wood a few days(weeks will be better) before putting it into the tank, if it stop fogging your water don't mean it will never.. hope this help

You can use a rock tied/wedged to it or boil it, depending on the size. Some people just leave theirs in a bucket of water for a few days until it's waterlogged.

Depending on your driftwood. If there are holes on top but is not a "hole through", you can fill it with sand, you can fill it with marbles or rocks, etc.

Alternatively if you have two rocks, you can tie one black string around the each rocks and put on alternate side of the driftwood, that will secure it down also. Remember that black string you can still turn the rock on one side like winding to adjust long short.

For my drift wood, usually I will push it downwards a bit, so that some parts of the wood is "pinned" down into the sand. So this is another way to do it.

I would reccommend soaking it and cause as much of a temp fluctuation every few hours to get it to sink as quick as possible. Maybe you could boil it first. Boiling will also help semove remaining tannins in the wood
