    alo all,

after changing and adding tank water so many times, i suddenly wonder that when we change water, do we wan to stir the base so that all the dirt and deposits that settled on the base can be disturbed and then sucked out? Or do we leave them alone and jus suck out from the top?

Are those deposits on the base something like nutrients for the plants? or they are like dirt which should be gotten rid of?

During water change, I just siphon off whatever is on the surface to keep things tidy. Whatever is beneath, I leave them as plant food.

For me, water change means siphoning the water surface, and also doing a quick vacuuming of the gravel surface... especially so when you can physically see a build up of dirt.
