cabomba and hornwort

which one is easier to grow in a low maintainence tank with just sunlight and no co2?

And where can i find them, especially cambomba (what is the local name for them in LFS?). How do i tell them apart (pics look similar).

They look different.

Hornwort is a lot thinner and finer, normally left floating. You see these in bags of shrimps sold at C328. If their fine leaves melt, you get a mess. Otherwise, they grow very fast!

Cabomba is a stem plant. Here's a clear picture.

I think it needs good soil and good light. Mine didn't look healthy after a while in my low tech , so I have pulled them all out.

Hornwort is easier. I would not use Cabomba. Note that hornwort can melt at times, if it's in a newly set-up tank. If your tank is established, hornwort will grow like crazy in sunlight.

thanks. so i was only growing hornwort all this while hehehehe....where can i find some cabombas?

Arrr...cabomba very easy to grow but a lot of debris. It sorta breaks off or chew off by fish. Cheap cheap $1 to $2 per bundle (usually with a sall pot or metal piece. Most LFS have it.

Cabomba carliniana or Green Cabomba is the most commonly sold.
Next to that is Cambomba pulcherrima which is known as Purple Cabomba (Slightly more reddish) which most of the time is the fish's favorite ECA Food.
Rest of the cabomba class are not so common from what I know.

If you visit most neighbourhood LFS, one or two will probably have Cabomba in stock. I used to buy them in bunches at 50 cents each, but that was maybe 10 years or more ago.

It's a fragile plant, easily breaks, and I really hate it when it melts. Hornwort is so much easier to handle, and nicer to look at too. In good light, cool water, they start to turn more green and occasionally some will have reddish tips, especially at the top of the plant. I got some and they're just nitrate removers.
