What's this shrimp?

For blue shrimps, some pet shops stock them, but i heard that the blue colour is not consistent. gosh, have you experienced the yuck before? sigh...

in fact, i rear the 'yuck', have about 70 of them.

if u want, i can post some pics of them

The brown colour is actually their wild colour, meaning that before we dometicated them to have yellow, green and red variations, they were brown colour. actually, they are quite interesting in their wild form.

they have many variations in colours and pattern. some are spotted, some are pale, some are yellowish, some are reddish.

you have to be fast to separate your sakuras and green shrimps before too much interbreeding occurs.

what about my crs, bds, orange and sakuras? will they inter breed?
also, what if a add blue and yellow in?

Hi shrimpbait,

generally, shrimps from the caridina genus will interbreed together, and shrimps from the neocaridina genus will also interbreed together, but caridina and neocaridina will not interbreed together.

Sakura, green and yellow shrimps are actually the same species, it is just that they are different colour variants. Hence, they will interbreed to produce the wild colour.

For crs and bds, they will interbreed, as they are also the same species. regarding the colour produced, you will have to ask the pros, i am unsure of this.

For orange, they are from the caridina genus, however their offspring require saltwater to hatch, so nothing will happen.

For blue, it depends on what type of blue shrimps you are getting. If you are getting blue bee or blue tiger, it will interbreed with crs and bds. if you are getting blue pearl, it will interbreed with yellow, sakura and green.

hiya, thanks for the enlightening information, much appreciated.

with regards the crs and bds, have been told by an experienced LFS boss that offsprings will be in %, eg, perhaps 40%bds and 60%crs, whatever they may be.

ok, so am at least certain that my orange won't be getting anywhere...

gotta plan... ok, giving the greens away!! haha

shall hold the yellow... but am so in love with the blue... sigh!
either way i lose, unless i start a 1 foot cube, to house the blues..
can they take temp of 25-26?

Brown:

transparent with gold stripe

yellowish:

Lastly, my favourite colour, dark brown with gold strip

hey, thanks for taking the trouble to post the pictures! i like the ones with gold stripes on their backs!

am trying to fish out all green ones to put in my friend's tank.. just back fr colourful, got 20 firereds.
