You need at least a 2x1.5x1 for the scape you desire.
ADA will be a better choice.
Filter wise, just stick to Ehiem flow rate 3-4 times the total volume of your tank.
You might need 3WPG and CO2 for your hairgrass.
As for chiller, get at least Resun 280 or above. I owned Resun 280 before and its quite good.
Remeber to cycle your tank at least for 4-5 weeks if everything is completely new.

Fan in the day and aircon in the night will cause fatucation of the the temperature. Its bad for CRS and i have learned that lesson.

    Yap 3WPG = 3 watt per gallon

Yes you are right, fluctuation means the temperature change of the water during night with aircon and with fan in the day. As we know that fan can never get the temperature that a chiller or aircon can maintain as it is dependent on the day ambient temperature.

    yesh change of temperature.
recent months is cooling. wait till january onwards, day and nite temperature difference will be higher. investment of chiller is a must unless your aircon runs 24/7.
Rearing and breeding CRS is expensive.

You can actually get 2nd hand chiller from market. peoples usually sell them because they had upgrade their fish tanks to bigger ones.

Re: Starting up a 2ft tank

Evil, I saw one 3ft setup for CRS.

It had a breeder box that is submerged below water level. Meaning the top is exposed. As the lightings above is warmer whilst the sand surface is cooler, the owner actually the shrimps run wild, and up to the shrimps to choose 1st floor or 2nd floor. Ever thought of that? Some filter cotton is stuffed into the breed box so that the shrimps can hide.

What I can tell is malayan shrimps live in the breed box whilst the crs just runs about. Owner is running a 3x chiller, according to him not so cold, I have advise him to locate upwards which he have a lobang there. Going to check him out this weekend. Flame moss..umm..rest I forgotten. Some rotten moss there which I believe is christmas moss. Doesn't look like taiwan moss.

Rocky, shrimps are sensitive, you will need to handle with 120% of your heart. Oink himself also first timer. You can check out his thread. There are crs breeders around, suggest you goto photo gallery to familiarise yourself first. I also never jumped into setting my 2ft that fast. I basically taking my own sweet time at the moment.

Photo should be tempered glass background with some kinda light behind. The taiwanese tank very difficult to replicate. Remember plants do not grow the way you wanted unless you give it directions.

Here is a funny one. You need to on your speakers to hear it.

Yes Undergravel should not be a problem with gex soil, however you need to cover the undergravel with net to prevent the soil from been suck under it. As if you want to avoid a chiller, probably the grade of the CRS you keep will only be C to A, probably some S grade might manage to survive, but not sure will it affect the life span. (shorter?)

If you think of keeping higher grade, think you can't run away from a chiller.

Better use C/B Grade ones. SS Grade is bit too fast to go into.

Yo Rocky, goto Youtube, just search CRS.
For CRS Grading SS, A, B, C, just search the web will do.
