Hi,
I just recently started a planted tank and I realise that there is this layer of oil-like film on the water surface. And even tiny bubbles that rise to the surface do not actually break, but get trapped under the film.
Is there anyway I can manually remove it? Without the use of specialised equipment and stuff.
Thanks!

Lily pipe, guppies, mollies, surface skimmer can do the job, but this doesnt solve the problem. Usually this is due to plant not consuming the nutrients, this oily film can create algae boom soon. Try to work on the CO2, most time is the CO2 not doing a good job, the plant didnt create photosynthesis. Now i dont use anymore surface skimmer.

Use a piece of newspaper and just run it over the water's surface, if you want an easy manual removal method.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I think mollies are great to solve this "problem"
Surface Skimmers are the best to your problem, & its not expensive. Try it u won't regret it
Surface skimmer wont solve the rooting problem, you most likely will get algae soon.![]()

Thanks for the info guys,
Somehow the oil film problem kinda cleared up by itself, I guess once after my plants started taking root better and I started with my ferts.
Anyhow, I must have done smth right =P
