Hi guys, I'll going Tokyo in April 2010 and thinking of getting ADA stuffs (scissors, ADA light bulbs, fertilisers etc) there. Just wondering if anyone knows if the prices there are same or cheaper than in Hong Kong fish street?

Definitely Hong Kong will be cheaper, they're cheapest in the world from what i know, they're given a special price by ADA to fight against counterfeit product. Such as ADA scissor cost around appx. $100 bucks and Aqua soil cost appx. $16 for 9L, there's no way other places can beat these price. If you happen to know someone else there you can get even special rate from what i heard. Ask William...

HK is shipping ADA goods to China market in container every month therefore they are getting good price from ADA, Singapore market is too small to get the volume.

The prices for ADA in Tokyo are comparable to local prices, and for some items higher, but the Yen to SGD exchange rate when I was there in Feb was fairly high. 1000 yen to SGD $17.00
Also all the Tokyo LFS I visited sell at Suggested Retail Prices so all the LFS were at the same prices for ADA products, there are no discounts or special offers (at least not to me, I don't speak much Japanese)

Yen is currently on the high side still, 1000 Yen to SGD$15.25 so its unlikely ADA products will be cheaper in Japan.

If you're in no hurry, a marine freight forwarder should be able to do it for less than SGD$600 for 2 pallets (2 square meters total volume, unlimited weight) used to be less than $400 - $500 before the fuel surcharges kicked in. Will be subject to GST charges though.

I shipped 1.5 sq metres volume, totalling a little over 750kg spread over 2 pallets from St Louis, Missouri awhile back.

Ended up costing SGD$750.00 door to door. Took about 6.5 weeks though.
In fact, 60% of the fees was for doorstep pickup in the States and doorstep delivery in Singapore. They palletized and wrapped the boxes also in the fee.

It has been a long time since I step into this forum. Haha! Happy new year guys.

Well, firstly I agree that the ADA price in Hong Kong is the cheapest you can find. As for discount, if you know the shop owner, you will get discounted price. It is the same everywhere.

Having said that, I think the pricing thing happen for every type of products. Take for instance Timberland in US is extremely cheap as compared to SG but I guess all these are due to many factors such as volume, taxes etc..Hong Kong is cheap for everything as they are tax free.
    Regards
    William

Oops yes I meant Cubic Meters, not Square Meters. Marine freight forwarding is really much cheaper than everyone assumes.
Only problem is you need to figure out how to fill a cubic meter of space with stuff, heh.

Hong Kong also has one of the cheapest postal rates of any country in the world, good for mail order retail / small scale export.

Yeah because of the relatively small size of our local market, distributor costs (and margins) are higher to compensate for the lower volume.

    In the US, a pair of Levi's 501 Jeans was (last I checked) around USD$25.00 - $30.00
Same pair of Jeans costs more than SGD$120.00 here, crazy.

Also Hong Kong has one of the cheapest postal rates of any country in the world, great for mail order business and small scale exports.
All those HK based sellers you see on ebay are making a killing off their shipping charges alone.
