    Hi,

How do you test if your ammonia test kit (drip kind) is faulty?

I used it on tap water and it still shows low ammonia present, same goes when i use it on aged water with Seachem Prime dosed.

Any advice? Is my kit faulty?

    Re: Ammonia Test Kit Question

ammonia will only be present when there's fauna living inside.. etc fishes and that poop + pee = ammonia

an established nitrogen cycle will then break down the ammonia into nitrite and into nitrate which is less toxic to fishes as compared to the other two. but nitrate should still be kept as low as possible

    Re: Ammonia Test Kit Question

It's always Yellow with a greenish tint tested on my:

    1) Tank water
    2) Tap water
    3) Aged water with antichlorine dosed

Theres this one time, it turned very yellow after leaving the reagent for more than 15mins. Dont know whether to trust this API Kit anymore lol

Hm, ill get myself the Seachem AMmonia Alert stick-on thing and try later on..

    Hi Eightfold,

I just posted this on the Beginner's Section. I have the same issue with you. Using API test kit just bought. Out of curiosity, I tested the tap water and found it contained Ammonia!! My reading is 'worse' than yours. Waiting for experienced brothers here for advice. Cheers.

    Re: Ammonia Test Kit Question

I suggest you post a picture of the testtube containing the reagent and your tank water.

I'm not doubting you but when I first started using API test kit, I couldn't really tell yellow from yellow with a tinge of green.

    To Eightfold:

I do not think your test kit is faulty. You should read this thread instead:
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=65724

I have 4 API test kits that were purchased maybe 4-5 years ago, and they are still working fine. I have faith in their products.
