Does anyone knows the specs of the fan? Like RPM and noise level (dBa)? Would like to find a replacement fan with comparable noise level based on specification instead of depending on hearing during test.. Thanks

Re: Mr aqua tornado fan specification

Only link I found is this:

    http://www.alexteo.com/aquarium/mr-a...o-cooling-fan/

It is supposedly quieter than other AC fans. The link does not state the RPM nor dBA information, but I guess you can go to the LFS and look at the box yourself. The drawback of this fan, as mentioned in this thread:

    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=63118

is that it causes a fair bit of evaporation to occur. If you are okay with regular top-ups, I guess this fan should suit your purposes.

Bro for the reply.. Yup I have seen both before posting and even got a very nice bro who have the box to check it out for me.. But seems like unable to get such information. Heh I have the fan myself and find it very good except for the topup. Trying out some diy stuff and seeking fan of comparable noise level and rpm as the famous tornado fan

Well if the info is not available on the box then there's no way to find out unless you contact the company making it.

Maybe you can try using PC fans for the DIY project, but create a box or something to dampen the noise. I think some higher quality fans might be comparable to the Tornado in terms of noise level. Seen some fairly quiet PC fans before, so a visit to Sim Lim might be good.

3 degrees is possible. my 20 litres tank can cool down to 26.

yes it can. i would say the mounting brace of this fan is a little crude but effective.

i find my fan emits louder sound when used for a few months. but the sound level is still much lesser than normal fans. The sound emitted initially is really silent.

Try not to touch water.. As the metal casing is very easy to rust..

I wonder if the noise and effectiveness of the GEX fans are on par with this Tornado. Using 2 x GEX cooling fans on my 4 footer, and I can see the temperature going down slowly. Noise level is acceptable as well. I don't hear them when I'm watching TV.

tornado fan confirm softer than the GEX ones. I have both and sold off the GEX one only after 1 day because of the noise. And the opening of tornado fan is much bigger than the GEX ones, so i think it will be more effective.

Re: Mr aqua tornado fan specification

Hmm, well I had the biggest of the GEX fans, but because it was so large and cumbersome, I switched to 2 x of the smallest model that was meant to cool down tanks 25 litres and below. The 2 smaller fans brought down the temperature in my 4 footer by 2.1 degrees from 30.5 to 28.4 over an 8 hour period, and better coverage of air circulation. They don't generate that much noise, as compared to my old DIY PC fan setup. I figure the larger one would be much more capable in terms of cooling capability but too bad it's so big. Though for 2 puny fans to cool down my single 4 foot tank, I think they're pretty decent.

I wonder how many degrees can a single Tornado reduce for a 4 foot tank. Do people use more than one Tornado for tanks larger than 2 ft?

vynz mentioned that the weakness of the Tornado is that it is entirely made of metal, which will rust when in contact with water. The GEX, being made of plastic with the fan unit encased, has no issues with this aspect.

There is a similar fan to the GEX, but produced by Kotobuki. Maybe someone who owns them can share their experiences in comparison to the Tornado and GEX fans?

i used mine for 3-4 months, so far no rust. used to cool my 20 litres tank, about to bring down temperature from 2-3 degrees.

Re: Mr aqua tornado fan specification

I used the tornado fan for 1 year, not functioning any more, so I guess should be kaput already . I have yet to try to 'resuscitate' it.
It was clogged with dirt + some rust, so I reckon you should take it out every quarter to do some maintanance, as with all electrical stuff.
