Does shrimps go well with gold fish

my visit to LFS told me that i should not add shrimps to tanks with fishes, cause we add salt for the fish. shrimps will get stress with salt.

But i had saw some of the tank setup had fishes with shrimps. so am i able to add shrimps to my current tank of gold fish? I am able to seperate the shrimps from the gold fish, so the gold fish would not be able to nibble on them when they shred their shells. but they would still be subjected to the same water environment. currently unable to setup seperate tank for the shrimps.

Should i even consider to try 2-3 shrimps first or totally drop the idea.

sorry but i would advise you not to add shrimps into your goldfish tank.

(1)goldfish poo alot and this will cause the water quality to go bad. maybe goldfish can still able to survive but not shrimps, shrimps are very sensitive to water quality.

(2)shrimps might be snacks for your goldfish.

thanks. assuming 1 and 2 under control, what are the other concern.

1. filtration setup
2. segregate the shrimps from the fish, but still in the same water environment.

edit: I am just trying to understand more about shrimps as i have 0 knowledge about them. thanks for sharing

If i'm not mistaken, goldfish is a alkaline water kind of fish?

1: if your filtration set up is matured, you should not have a problem if you do regular water changes to decrease nitrates.

2: shrimps have different ph needs and are more sensitive to the ph of the water. check your ph then decide what shrimp you want.

by the way, not ALL shrimps are sensitvie to salt. Shrimps like yamato do well in brackish waters.

I think goldfish have many items on its dinner menu, and high chance shrimps are on it.

thanks for the feedback. maybe i try 1 or 2 yamato to see first. hate to buy alot and see them die. they have a life after all.

they will not be accessible from the goldfish for sure. the goldfish will stay with their pellets... hahaa

dun need to try. gold fish sure chiong for them...even my runnynose tetras now see shrimp = food. So i dun keep shrimps anymore.

goldfish eats anything that they see moving around, even their poos...

My goldfish even ate an adult ramhorn snail, shell and all. The shrimp will be gobbled up in a second.

High quality buffet lol . No way la haha erm anything that can fit in the gold fish mouth , that should be avoided
