i was told by someone in order to grow spiky moss u nd to raise the gh level to 4-6.. i add gh buffer to my aquarium and it results in increasing the pH level, is spiky moss really nd the required gh level? will increasing gh and ph will harm my discus?? Stress
just try to grow it, my bet is, they will do fine
one question though, what is your tank temperature, given you are keeping discus?
moss generally prefer lower temperature.
i always had this question, too expensive for me to try in practice, can discus live at 24-26 degrees, safely?

Make your way to Vista Point. Just behind the market there (selling fruits), you will see a small small unknown fish shop. The shop keeper is like Young Ah Beng with tatoos (no, he doesn't swear, smoke and english not proficient). He specialised in Discus and even managed to mate the Discus in pairs. In fact, the babies just born last month only. You could make your way there and have most of your questions answered.

I would think that Discus survive at Room Temperature. Most people I see will keep a heater in the tank roughly between 28-29C. The settings differs for each one I see.

Once you are committed to Discus, you must be very thorough till the end. It takes considerable amount of time each week. =P

Okay, he doesn't sell Blue Discus, because he think it is out of trend. (Sorry I am not a discus person) He doesn't sell a lot of fancy stuffs but he do have chillers which he is still trying or rather he is experimenting there. He is also like us, trying to learn the ways of aquatic planting. So he toy a bit with shrimps here and there. It's like a small half shop, so the stuffs he sell is quite limited. =) Once you have this lower expectation, you can go to him for advise for Discus breeding and other stuffs like that.
Don't buy the heater yet because I say so, ask him, he might have a different opinion. Bear in mind that he did successfully paired a few discus. It is very very very very difficult to identify which is male and female as far as I can tell...
Oh yah, whilst you at it, you can visit the provision shop beside. They sell Kings Bicarbonate of Soda $1 each. You might want to pick up a few bottles also.

Discus can survive at the temperature you mentioned, but they may turn slightly dark and if these happen it is better to take them out and keep in a bare tank, increase the temperature to around 30 degrees and add in some acriflavin (follow the dosage on the bottle). Forgot to add on, discus can survive in high PH and Gh but must be increase gradually.
