    Agree to the fullest, maintenance is really tedious. I trim by cutting all down to just 1 layer. All of the cut part will float to the top, very messy, using a fish net to scope all up, plus changing water, can take up to >3 hours every time.

    Yes. You need to cut every layer ... one by one until left only the most bottom layer, at most 2-3 layers on top.
