Saw this fish at Y618 today.
Owner labelled "Pink Panther" on the tank.

Anyone seen this type of fish before?
    Are they difficult to keep?

Re: Pink Fish - Pink Panther

    OMG yet another man-created thing.

From the picture it is not clear if this is yet another hybrid or simply selectively bred to miss out on certain pigments. we have heard of dyed fish but not sure if people will try bleaching next. but very definitely you will not find them in the wild.

If you happen to like such things, fine. But if you don't know better, and think this is some weird and wonderful new creature, it isn't.

Looks like a dyed short-body form of the Convict Cichlid, or possibly a hybrid fish.

Shouldn't be a Blood Parrot Fish. It lacks the funny head shape distinctive of Blood Parrots.

Dont think it is a Parrot. The mouth is not like the Parrot that shapes like a triangle.

But it reminds me of the behaviour of the Rams.

    Took this shot at Seaview.

Sold as "FLOWER TATOO PARROT FISH". Needless to say, must be the work of Qianhu again.

Re: Pink Fish - Pink Panther

The Pink Panther or so it is called is definitely dyed coz my cousin used to have these I know its a type of short bodied cichlid but dunno which kind... after a few months the pink colouration disappears leaving a white pale fish... which didnt last...

Yeah, looks like a dyed short bodied convict to me. Seen quite a few of these around.

Yuck. Those "flower tattoo" parrots are just downright ugly. I wonder who will buy these, when the dye actually fades away over time. Reminds me of the time when we had those dye-injected glassfish.

even without the tattoos those man-made monstrosities are downright ugly.

Seriously, why don't Kenny Yap just do a Merlion tatoo on the fish and sell it as our national souvenir?

Re: Pink Fish - Pink Panther

Any idea how is the tattooing done?
When I saw the China Tatooed fish, first reaction is "WOW".

Tattooing and dying are 2 different methods right?
And Yah, I agree that they dont look good.

Re: Pink Fish - Pink Panther

I saw the worker dying the parrots at the Quarantine area in Qianhu. Each fish less then 5sec. His "work of art" was a purple line down the fish.

A bottle of purple dye connected to some syringe via a tube is used for the coloring. He pierce the syringe into the fish, inject the fish with the dye and out came the line. I was surprise by the speed and how he pierce the needle under the fishes which such skills.
