    Hello all,

I have a bad infestation of cladophora algae in my shrimp tank. They are growing in all the rock crevices, and forcing my shrimps out of their home.

I took out the coral rocks for a good scrub, but I want to absolutely remove the cladophora. Will boiling the rocks kill them?

Yes, boiling will kill them but they will simply recolonize the rocks once they are back in the tank. I have successfully killed of the hair algae in my tank with hydrogen peroxide. My shrimp survived but I think some died... I used 2 mL/4 L 3% H2O2 doses 1x per day for 2 days. I think one could get away using half this dose.

Thanks, not putting them back. Going to re-start the tank with the rocks. I don't dare to use any chemical, because the last time I took out the rocks and used bleach on them, and use anti-chlorine to clear the bleach, I kill some shrimps even after soaking the rocks for a long time.

If yours is a planted tank, and you have BBA, I would advise you to dose 4 capful of excel every 2 days, and you should be totally cleared of the BBA in 2 weeks. However, some plants like vals can't take the excel and will melt.

Same as for hair algae... I would start with a half dose and see how that works. I found the H2O2 killed all the old leaves on many of my plants.
