    Hi,

New home, new tank, set up end Dec 2004.

1st attempt at a planted tank, so looking for some advise/comments on my scaping of vegetation.

Also have some questions on plant growth.
For grass, to u buy 1 patch & put it in & let it grow from there hoping that it will cover more area, or does 1 buy as many patches to cover all the area that they want.

    Thanks

    Updated pics from 25 Feb.

For carpet plants, buy a few pots. Separate the plants into groups of 2 or 3 individual plants and plant them 1 to 2 inches apart, evenly distributed over the area you want to cover. Some plants have to be seperated into individual plants. Getting a pair of planting tweezers help a lot. Lower the water level as low as possible, to make it easier.

Nice tank. Now you need a nice scape. Check out Sam's Pet and Aquarium at United Square. They have a similar designed tank.

In your case, you should do a U shape scape. Low plants in the middle and tall plants in the sides.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Thanks for the advise, have read thru, the for dummies guide in an earlier posting as well as the other advise & got some tips from the LFS that I purchased my stuff from.
But thought better to absorb the wealth of experience you people have here.

Yes, I actually got the tank design idea from Sam's at United Square. Will go there & take another look.

Looks nice. Not overgrown at all.
It's quite hard to make a nice aquascape viewable from both sides...

Thanks for the fish ID & comments, will keep you posted if any new developments.

plus KF, the plants you gave me, doing really well after the DIY lights were put in.

Pity, mossies not doing well cos of high temp, despite fan, guess being in a cabinet has something to do with that.
Have replaced them with nanas & ferns since.
Hope they will show better results.

Can you believe this plant was actually just a small bit of leaf that came with some fish I bought.

No close-ups, because of BBA. Whahahaha

You have shrimps together with your apisto Hope the shrimps are big, otherwise may become food for the agassizii

Yes, they are all the bigger ones.
I keep count because there are about 10 of them, so far no casualties, because I think they rather hurt the Malayan shrimps who are hiding somewhere in the tank, don't know how those managed to survive though.

Yes, near the light area, within the cabinet. Actually have 2 fan units there, one of them is a DIY set-up.

Though because of the cabinet, the temperature tends to be higher, usually hovering around the 28-29 degree C point. So have been through a few plant types to find out which are more suited for my tank condition.

    Thanks for your kind comments.

Personally I think its a mess.
As I started the tank before joining this forum. What was I thinking man. heh.

Have been planning for an overhaul/tear-down, now that I know that the plants won't die on me. But ... hmmm, there's always a but, I can't seem to fix a date on this major project.

Re: My 1st planted tank (est 3 months)

Ladies & Gents... after 5 years... it's time for a rescape.

Still in the process of deciding what plants to put in... any suggestion.
BTW the tank is a bit warmer than normal, because it's enclosed, so those in need of cooler waters like ferns are out of the question.
