Bro, in my point of view, maybe u can get t5 lighting if ur pocket is deep enough, if not get a pl light... place ur light in the middle so it can shine all the area.... if u can add c02 will be best for the mosses...
Hi all,
I currently have a standard two feet tank. 2x1x1.5
The height is 36cm.
I'm growing Riccia, fissidens and Java moss.
My light im using is a 1x36W PL light. No ferts and using DIY co2 at the moment.
I'm wondering, what light will be best for my plants with DIY co2.
And what light is best without co2 because once i add in my shrimps, co2 will not be added.
Where is the best place to position the light?
My riccia and fissidens are in the foreground while the moss is in the background. should i place my light in the foreground?
Thanks in advance.

PL is fine. Place the light as long as it can shine all areas nicely as suggested by Ben. Why exclude CO2 when you introduce your shrimps? Would be good to have it.

im using diy co2, so im not so sure about the consistancy of the co2, so wont want to risk my crs dying.
Sister NingNing, i rather you concentrate on your crs. moss are usually very hardy. CRS tanks are not for aquascaping. I'm having a 1.5 feet tank to cure my aquascaping itch. my 3 feet crs/twfr tank is doing well.

I thought that in the market there is some LED lighting for shrimp tanks?
Cheers
Haha bro eviltrain.. okieokie will concentrate on my crs.. but to be honest. my moss are DYING!!!
this is a brand new tank... since tank still in cycling period, i can use co2 for the time being and revive my moss and plants..
I think i must go and convince my bf to give me one more tank!! haha...
Your moss dying?? Use another tank to grow then.![]()
moss dying? did you bought the moss from LFS? Moss are normally hardy but some times LFS stock moss too long without proper light thus it dying. I'm not sure on other shop but I saw this trend at C328
Sister NingNing, is your crs doing well? Honestly speaking, i never had moss dying unless those excess which i trim from. if you wants, can add tiny amount of seachem excel. any other form of fertilizer without copper can be added ( AT YOUR OWN RISK ). mind tell us what moss you have and is dying? maybe some photo will help too.

2ft usually uses 20G (US Gallon) or 22G as guide. 36w/20g = 1.8 wpg (watt per gallon), I agree with Shadow that there is insufficient light. Ning, you have to get another one, make up at least 3 wpg. If you do not know how to calculate, just use the calculator from AQ.

Given sufficient light, the moss will re-grow. So don't worry about it. Meantime just keep your crs alive.
36W for a two feet tank is sufficiently low for even a non CO2 tank.
A few drops Excel per day or every other day doesn't have effect on CRS IME.
Java moss is very hardy. In soil tanks, I don't fertilise or put lighting[just faint window light] it still grows!
Albeit very slowly.

The moss will re-generate on it's own. I recently induced an algae boom on my tank to understand this. So far the re-generation is quite amazing for the christmas moss on coconut husk. (direct from PL) But the one on the driftwood grows many times slower (closer to my t5) The PL is very very low wattage...Contradicting results. I have yet to do closer observation since I am working on my CNY lanterns at the moment. I do agree with Stan, but this current behavior of the christmas moss is very interesting.
