    need advice on the above.
as most of you experts know, nowadays the motherboard comes equip with high dense audio, which i have one with on board audio and high dense , but my casing has a front panel with some usb ports and an audio output, but because these audio sockets cannot take high dense signals, i cannot get sound to come out of them, which is more convenient than the back on board sockets.

i would therefore like to change the panel to be able to accept high dense audio signals from my mb.

anyone can advise on where to go get a panet to change one and how to tell if the audio socket on the front panet can play high dense.
    thanks

    Hi,

DIY pc? you may wish to ask the person who put your machine.
It is a well known thing for people to don't fix that. That aside, front panel audio ports support AC97/Realtek plugs for most.

If you are intending to get HD audio (Digital Audio) save your time. Front panel for low-mid tier casing do not support that. But you can buy a higher end sound card (Example creative X-Fi series) They "may" supply you one that has HD audio for the 5.25 bay (Cdrom bay in short).

    Here's a Link ($299.00 SRP:Suggested Retail Price)

Important Note: Do not buy off the shelf ones without confirming they support, as retail person may not be specialized in that sector.

P.S: X-Fi may seem like a "kick-***" card, but i've seen insane ones while working as a technician in a retail outlet. If your unsure i am very sure the "Geek" bros here will be very happy to help you.

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

    hi,
i don't want another sound card. Just one front panel audio socket to support my hd audio coming from my card.

basically do i need to just change the connecting cable to the front panel , or must change the front panel to one which supports hd audio output.

you are right, my front panel only supports realtek/ac97 audio. Can this be changed to receive high dense audio ?
    thanks.

    I know what you mean.

Front panel supporting HD audio hard to find.
Hard to find = expensive, not logical to buy unless you don't mind.
So is changing the plug to ones that support HD standard.

See below links (Under Bay Devices)
    http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...ries.php?area=

On Newegg (Get from here if you can't find off the shelf)
    http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813999355

For me i am using AC97/Azilla 3XXX on my front panel. As my earphones are not the lower $120++ range that will benefit from it.

If you are seeking a place to plug headsets HDA standard, buy an extension like bro eviltrain said and route to the front.

This reminds me so much of my old chief-tech casing's "DIY UV-light switch" . But now its sold off...

You should be able to find 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" HD-Audio (High Definition audio) front panels with connectors to your onboard HD-Audio connectors from most of the accessory stores in Sim Lim Square.

You can try Prolink, M-Technic or Best Price on the 5th floor, just explain to them you want to a front panel audio connectors linked to your onboard HD Audio connectors and they should know what you're looking for.

ok, this one i understand and probably what i want, as i already have a connector on my mb for the front panel, but is is high dense so no sound comes out even when i plug anything into the audio sockets on the front panel.

unless of course the SL SQ shops hd audio panel connectors are expensive, i will go look for them as i am familiiar with the shops you mentioned.
    thanks a lot.
    cheers

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

I don't really understand by high dense.

I can do mixers, amps. Now here is your problem, you want to use the back ports at the front side. Just get an extension cable for 3.5" or mini quarter inch will do, it is available at most hardware shop $5-10, don't have to go to SLS. My laptop is running a pair of JBL speakers. Cube size but can generate sizeable bass.

If not, just get a Sennheiser HD202 headphones, the 3m cable should be long enough for you. It is sold at $29.90 or 39.90, I forgotten....at Funan. What I used to do is a simple $10 soundcard connected to an amplifer with 4 soldered speakers, that will work too provided you don't blast your neighbours to get complain. Hope this helps you.

BW: He wants to connect HD audio equipment so maybe its not headphones, so normal ones he cannot use.

wllm33: Of course the ones you have now no sound when your using, their analog output. Go try see online how much they cost before going Sim lim square. BTW what do you intent to plug in?

Fuzzy: Think he should be able to find 5.25 Bay ones, If it gets too expensive might as well go ask the distributors in "HWZ" which casing comes with HD ready front panel.

My friend once told me why he bought Audigy sound card, I just stared at him.

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

I will make it simple then. Open your CPU. If there is no connection cable to the front panels, you just need to pick up one for about $5 to $10. First you have to locate the audio pins on the motherboard then connect up to the front panel. It should minimum have 2 cables, 1 for mic, 1 for speaker out, normal is 3. 1mic, 1speaker, 1phono/headphone. White or black flat head connectors.

Good motherboard should come with manuals, else, you either inspect the motherboard or you download the manual.

Audigy and Extigy thingy, I tested it out on mixers to Stage speakers, no diff. leh. BTW, my friend was so impressed with the system he ask from me, I gave it to him already. The amps I picked up free from one of the school changing their sound system, whilst speakers (1 pair is BOSS), picked up whilst I was fixing pc when I was 24.

    hi,
i have no problems with the sound output with headphones when jacked into the sockets on my motherboard, but no sound when i jack into the front audio panel sockets. So i think it is the front panel sockets which is the issue as they are connected on the correct pins on my mb as per manual instructions. So what is the difference between the audio sockets on the front panel which comes with the casing vs those which are on board the mb?
    thanks

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

On board is soldered. Front panel is linked by pc audio cable. Normal audio cables are not applicable here. If the connectors are loose, you might want to consider a new CPU Casing, hipper casing don't cost you much also. But what you want to take note here is the size of the mb. If the mb is really big then a small housing isn't what you looking for. In the first place, your mb must have extra pins for those pc audio cable. So read your mb manual carefully.

    E.g. Asus Maximus II Gene.
    http://sg.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID...sZ9&templete=2

Click on the mb on the right hand, you will see the audio pins on the right. You should pinpoint the pins from the motherboard that comes with it. If yours is ready purchase/pre-assembled, you might want to refer to your vendor respective helpdesk for advice.

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

    hi,
    thanks for the advice.
i better ellaborate more on my set.
it is a brand new asus mb and a brand new casing , with all the wires from the front panel available.

also the pins are there on the mb for the connecting wires from the front panel audio sockets. Plugging in the connectors is not the problem as asus is pretty clear in their manual, so it should be correct and available and i had done the connections.
but i cannot play the sound from the front audio jacks, while the on board audio sockets no problem as the mb can handle high dense audio. Why is the front panel audio jacks not able to handle the high dense audio since it is connected to the pins on the mb for the front audio wires? afterall, they are only audio sockets and wire connectors?
    thanks

Re: where can i buy front panel for pc?

In the first place, PC are built for personal computing. Most of us already knows that. PC is not class AB equipment meaning it will cause signal interference, some may know some do not. Bad soldering or designs hampers sound quality. ( My england might have some problems at times)

Of monster cables you know cables are magnetically sheild, since you have the connecting cables, did you test whether it is the cable or the front panel that cannot make it?

Once I was doing sound mixing. 1 fellow soundman and 1 fellow electric lead guitarist comes forth to me with argument. The guitarist connects his guitar via a foot switch to his DI Box via his expensively bought 1/4 inch cable connecting to XLR floor jacks. So comes the argument. Soundman said "You buy this cable so expensive, might as well buy a $10 cable and still do the job", Guitarist said "Quality! Quality! You do mixing you should know better!"

The argument was bring forth to me. I told both of them: The problem with the stage is that it is structually insufficiently earth, hence causing noise. The cable itself will have shielding effect but you need a discerning ear to hear. Turning to the guitarist, you do understand most people would not be able to decipher that correct? But the cable does provide better quality. The guitarist agreed.

Turning to the soundman, so if you cannot decipher the sound does that means you always go for cheap stuffs, would that not add on to the main problem. He agrees. I ask him if he can hear any noise, he said he can't. Focusing on one of the frequences, I jammed up many times via the crown amplifiers to the main speakers. Both covered their ears. *smile*

So now. Ask yourself. Is the front panel built to handle "high dense"? More connections more noise? Does a badly solder affects? If you don't have answer for the last one, go back and inspect it again. Does an audio cable having a clear path sound better or does an audio cable going above a fully operational mutli-socket power jacks sound better. I think you have your answer already. If you don't understand the last part, take a battery with a piece of wire connects to + and - of the battery and put it near a radio. When you run the contacts at with the wire you will hear noise from the radio (must be on to am/fm channel of course). It is exactly the same reasoning here.

    wllm,

If it is really too chim (deep), just see if you have an extra bay slot or not. Take a look here. A little modification can take you further.
    http://www.frontx.com/

The cables can be connected to the back panel, you just need to open an extra slot at the back.
