i've heard that while magic soil is good for shrimp, it's not popular for planted tanks due to low nutrient contents. i have no first hand experience though
hi guys. heres a discussion thread about magic soil. nowadays GeX have came out and magic soil is not being really used by aquascapers huh?..
anyway heres what i think about magic soil
pros: when filling up water, no cloudiness is found
when substrate is disturbed cloudiness settled in minutes
Cons: compared kg to kg for magic soil to both ada and gex. its the most expensive.
i find that magic soil broke down into dust particles eariler den ADA. mine used for a few months and i have a thick thick dust particles under the magic soil.
pellet size is way too big.
thats about it.. i feel that magic soil's dust particle is heavier den ada..
ada took days or even weeks to clear up the dust particle when using a canister filter.
for my nano set up. i revamped the whole tank causing totally cloudiness.. dust particles settle within 5mins with just a 150l/hr hang on filter.

not very sure about the nutrients though.. i guess magic soil will break down to mud in less than 1 year.. i used magic soil for around 3 - 4months and the bottom half is mud already
I mixed ADA Amazonia with Magic soil in my shrimp planted tank... So far, some rooted plants are growing quite well. And it's been more than 3 months... Never see them breakdown into mud though...![]()
i guess when u revamp your tank, you might have crushed some of the soil, thats why they become mud much easier.
i think compared to leaving it alone, it will not break down to mud as easily.
what brand does magic soil come from ???
