    Hi,

Is it true that tetras are hard to keep in singapore due to the water? i have a friend who has advised me against keeping tetras as he has bad experience with them.

I love tetras which was one of the reasons I'm starting on this hobby.

    Derek,

Next time click "Submit" once and be patient. You posted a total of three times.

Anyway, many ppl keep tetras succesfully in Singapore. You just have to understand water quality issue and how to keep your water suitable for whatever fishes you want to keep. Tetras are not the hardiest, but they aren't they fragile either.

Other forumers can tell you more.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your comments.

Would you be able to advise where is the best place to get tetras? Are they breed locally or imported?

Sorry for the questions as I don't have any other friends who keeps tetras and this is my first time dabbling seriously into this hobby.

Derek, how big is your tank?
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

According to a article, Neons are all commercially bred and Cardinals are are imported as it is nearly impossible/costs too much to cover the cost in some case when possible, to commercially bred them.

I got a small tank with Cardinals from Gan too, I would not say they are weak or so, they are fish that needs constant care like rams and discus. They need good condition water so weekly water change is a must. They are shy and get stressed easily initially and when they recognise you and your feeding habits during feeding time(might take few months or more), the splashes for food will get you wet.

My wife always tap the tank lightly with a spoon before feeding and they are now so used to it and was all in standby mode the moment she taps the tank today.
    Cheers and Regards,

the water in singapore is exceedingly soft
a lot of ppl in the states and overseas have it tough keeping tetras compared to us

that said, it's actually ok to keep tetras in harder water, because they can get used to it
just don't expect them to breed

My tetras are okay, just as mentioned above, water quality is important.
They are not so fragile i used to fail initially coz neber mpay attention to water quality.

Just keep thank clean and cool and not too alkali should be fine unless you got bad stock to start with.

Tell u what. Dun be hasty abt the fish. If you want a planted tank, you will need to stable it for 2 weeks preferably. But if you are very very hasty abt it, try 2 days with water stablizers, etc. The rest of em would be better advisers to this.

Personally I just wanna say if you need to buy fishes, try cardinal first. After which u can add other breeds but not penguin tetra. they will eat the rest of em up.
