My guess is Channa gachua of thailand. Subadults show alot of spots which disappear upon adulthood.
did the seller mention any locality to you?

If you caught this locally, I think it is a young Channa striata.

I based the ID on the chevron markings along the side of the body, and the head markings. I don't think it is gachua. Does not show the edging to the caudal fin found in gachua. There is no indication of the distinctive strip that runs along the top edge of the dorsal fin either.

Gachua's do not show edging or much colour depending on locality and age. Juveniles can be plain and colourless. I too would think its a striata but striatas do not exhibit the spots as of in the picture given by TS like most gachuas would.
any recent picture in its proper set up?
