they are from the south, Lake Malili and associated areas. What kinds of fishes are they selling at the shops?

I been to Sulawesi twice but totally no idea where to buy these shrimps. Are they actually from Sulawesi? If so, which part of it? Btw i had been to only the southern part of the town name Makassar. I went to the place where a row of shops selling fishes but don't see any shrimps at all.
Really been hoping to buy some back if the price is cheap.
Appreciate any comments here. Cheers.

South? I am at the south Sulawesi which is the main town by the name of Makassar but i don't seems to see any
Sorry i really not sure about the fishes cos i am only scouting for the shrimps so never really take a second look at the fishes.
I suppose is it because the shrimps are mainly for export that why i can't find it in their lfs.

probably because there is no local market yet.

The shrimps are from Poso, Towuti which is a 10 hour drive from Makassar.
The shrimps are not sold in the shop there at all. They are all exported out. Jakarta is a better bet for finding them.

Jakarta? Which part? I m now in Jakarta but will be going back Singapore soon. Let me know where exactly can I find it. I also visited the lfs there which is similar to Makassar whereby they are in one whole stretch just opposite Sheraton hotel but can't find any. I suppose these shrimps can't be found in lfs but some other place like shopping mall or so is it?.

The row is called Sumenep. There should be a shop there specialising in shrimps. Not sure if they are still around. Another place is in Kelapa Gading.
You need to pre order first because most of the shops do not carry stock.
I also frequent Jakarta regularly. Perhaps, when we are both there I can introduce you to some of the shops.

I don't often travel there. This is my 2nd trip to Sulawesi and Jakarta. Anyway thanks for your kind offer. BTW how is the pricing over there compare to Singapore? If not much different, might as well get locally. Unless the grade there is much better otherwise too troublesome to bring back as I normally don't have any luggage to check in. Still must specially go and check in, really cumbersome lor.

Price wise... depends on who you get them from. Ranges from 15000 IDR to 40 000 IDR. 15000 IDR for the more common ones and $5 onwards for the exotic one. Alsoif you buy in bulk, the price can be even lower...
There are no grades for Sulawesi shrimps just the different species, at the last count, there are over 30 species.
Unless you buy in bulk, 50 to 100 pcs, it makes more sense to get it in Singapore.
$1 SGD approx = 6800 IDR

If buying shrimp is too troublesome, than get some snails since you already there. I am sure there are varieties of rabbit snails and easy to carry in mineral water bottle?

Dont bother with the CRS in Indonesia. All low grades !

if by "originate" you mean where they are found naturally, then no where since it is was selectively bred from the black bee shrimp. these occur naturally in southwest China and was line bred in Japan to produce the red version and then given the fancy "red crystal" name.
