Neon tetras are safe. They are peaceful fishes and they won't harm your yamato shrimps.
Hi All,
I am new to aquariums, and recently set up a planted one.
The tank has plants and 6 yamato shrimps inside.
Was thinking of adding some fishes inside but worried that buying the wrong ones will make my yamato shrimps = fish feed.
Any recommendations?
Are neon tetras safe?
Thanks!

Are corydoras safe too?
Yes definitely. Other liverbearers such as guppies, platy and mollies are safe too.
Thanks Dean!
only with Yamato Shrimp though, because they can't breed in fresh water, and they are fairly large.
With shrimplets present or smaller species of shrimp, Neon Tetra and other livebearers are not shrimp safe.
Thanks Fuzzy and Slash.
Unless you haven't feed them properly, then they might hunt the shrimps. Yes they are omnivores but that doesn't mean they will eat them. Make sure they are about the same size as neon tetra. In my 3 years of experience with my 2ft tank, I've never seen neon tetra eat my shrimps before. Just make sure you have enough plants for them to hide.
When i introduced 5 CRS to the tank 2 days ago the tetras mistaken them as food pellets! For the first 10mins i had to ward off the neons with a bamboo skewer. It took no longer than that for them to realize that the shrimps are new neighbors and since then no further hunting games.
Heh not something you want to be trying with high grade CRS.
Keep it with some small fishes like boraras should be fine.
