Hi just some Questions. my female have been behaving aggressively these few days chasing away another female and flaring at the male. Is it consider mating behavior? But the male seems to bou chap( dont care) her and once in a while flaring back. The female don't seem to be full of eggs but there are times where she turn yellow around her belly area. should i be doing anything? Will upload pics tonight if i got the time!

I think perhaps you're gonna be seeing babies soon.![]()

2x females inside the tank with a male. male has shown no aggression to anyone but the female chasing all the others away. shes flaring and swimming side ways at the same time but the male seems totally not interested...hope i get to see some babies![]()
Maybe she had laid the eggs in the coconut husk cave.
That's explain why she is so aggressive.

hmm but she is still flaring at the male and golden in color and moving away from her vase at times. so there are fries already? or has been eaten??male seems uninterested.

If she returns to the vase regularly and keeps other fishes away from the vase, most probably there are eggs or fry in the vase.

I don't think they have spawned. I believe the female is trying very hard to entice the male to enter the hideout to spawn, but the male is not interested. I've seen this behaviour with cacatuoides.

darn... male is uninterested. both the females turn bright yellow!!each have taken up a cave. the male is jus interested in the BS. What should i do with the male? let nature take its course?
Remove 1 female.

Yup, remove one female, or condition the male and females separately. Add in a mirror to make him flare. If the male does not react to the mirror then he might not even be interested to spawn at all. During the breeding period, try not to feed them so often, so they can focus on spawning.

Thanks for all the advicesthe female laid eggs and covered up her cave entrance with subtract haha
chasing away male and all other creatures tt gets close. Any idea how long it will take de eggs to hatch?!? thanks!!!
my apologies i didnt mention i have a mirror in the tank all these while. anyways is it bad for the apisto to have the mirror in the tank 24/7 ?
heres a pic of her cave! seems tt the entrance is too big for her comfort

If you can spot eggs and she has already piled up the gravel, then congratulations, you have a spawning. Now the time is to wait for the fry to emerge. If the tank is not big enough, you might have to get a breeding trap or house the extra female and the male away from the brooding female.
Don't try to fish the other 2 out unless you know you will not stress the female that is taking care of her eggs. If she gets spooked she will eat the eggs.

hey stormhawk whats a breeding trap? my tank is quite small and house 8x runny nose and 1male 2 female macmasteri. is a breeding trap something to shield the cave from others? she is quite aggressive now and is staying in her caves most of the time. surrounding her i have placed Moss ball and java moss for her babies to munch on those organism and BBS soon.
Is it ok to have a mirror in the tank 24/7? when will the eggs hatch?today 2nd day!! gonna get some BBS from C328 in advance. thanks
I know this sound idiotic but my first time having an apisto spawn. is it possible to remove the eggs and cave to an empty tank? will the fries hatch and take care of themselves? Will it have any side effect on the female? thanks

Are you intending to put them in the trap?
Maybe you will need more traps, it is a very small trap.
If not get a divider.
