Looking for the cheap Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops).
Called up a few LFS and they don't have it but they have sailfin molly which I don't like. Maybe it is because of the CNY, so they don't carry it now.
Hoping to get it before CNY. Thanks.

Re: Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops )

Went down to C328 and Polyart, and they don't have the Black Molly that I want. Anyone saw any of the 3 type available in LFS: Black Sailfin Molly,
Black Ballon Molly & Black Lyretail Molly?
A bit of Fengshui reason in getting them, hope to get them before the 15th day of CNY or this 2 days.
I know it is just a cheap and old-time fish, but it is still well-liked.
    Thanks.

Did not see the Black variant, but C328 has gold lyretail mollies in one of the upper tanks on the left entry.

Re: Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops )

Looking back at this thread, it is sad how some fishes common in the 80s and 90s are no longer easily available. It's hard to find nice mollies and swordtails these days, without those ugly extensions to the male's gonopodium. I think these days, to find a Black Molly, the best bet is the feeder tanks...

Kiatster, I got 2 mollies from Seaview some time after I posted the request. They are a nice fish to have and they mixed well with the fish I have but sadly I lost them after 6 months later. You can check out Seaview as they normally has a molly-full tank around. If you are interested, they also have platy and sword-tail tank the last time I went.

I really should get myself a nice pair of green Swordtails or these Black Mollies. Brings back memories of my childhood days when I first kept fish.

It's a shame that the livebearer scene in Singapore is confined to fancy guppies, swordtails, mollies, platies and the ever common Endler. Why can't we have some wild livebearers like Xiphophorus montezumae or X. pygmaeus perhaps. Our neighbours up north have much better selection when it comes to livebearers.

You bought the normal or the sailfin type? I think definitely not the balloon kind.

The last I got are the normal type. The sailfin type looks nice but seldom see them in LFS

There is one female in the tank that looks like normal molly to me. But not sure if its because its still young. Bought it anyway ahhaa. I was looking for the normal ones also. But since the balloon type looks kinda nice to me, i might as well grab. Main thing is very black. =) More black more good.
