    Tank Dimension : 2ft (60cm X 30cm X 36cm)
    Light Wattage: 4 X 24W
    Lighting Period: 8hrs (4hrs break 2hrs then 4hrs again)
CO2: 2bps (running same period as Lights)
Plants: Java Fern, Downoi, Glosso a little Spiky Moss
Fauna: Malayan and Cherry Shrimps, 5 White Clouds, 4 Nerite snails, 1 Otto
Fertilizers: Seachem Excel and Potassium. 2ml each. 2 times a week.

Setup: Done up in November 2009. Changed glass tank only a week before CNY. Reused Planta soil from old tank. Few days later after new tank setup, water started to cloud up. As of today realized water is turning a little greenish. Is UV Sterilizer a good solution to the problem?

you might want to reduce your light 96 watt is quite a lot for 2ft tank. If not done properly algae will take over. UV sterilizer sure can help

Not sure if these steps can help you:
    - reduce light intensity
    - perform 50% water change (initial)
    - use air tube to add clean water back into tank, to reduce gravel disturbance
    - perform 10% water change daily until your tank has stabilize.

Bro...it happened to me last month for my 6ft tank.

This is what I did. I off the tank lights for 1 whole week. The water cleared. But after 2 days, it became cloudy again, then I off the lights again for abt 4 to 5 days. After about 3 weeks, my water is now crystal clear.

Dont bother to buy those clear water, or green water away medication, I bought 3 different bottles from different brands, it did not work at all.

Thanks guys for the advices. I did do daily partial water change but its not really helping. I agree with fishking that medication don't really help solve the problem. I might consider buying a UV sterilizer and see how things goes. Will update again if UV works. Thanks once again.

^^" You can't exactly move house and expect it to be crystal clear. You still need to cycle the tank. It's quite bad for fish lungs. If you got hospital tank, temporary move the fish over for the time being. No hospital, please use a clean pail to house the fish until the water clears up. Air pump is appreciated of course.

Could you run some data on your filter as well?

Lighting wise, make it continous 8hrs. You should read up about photosynthesis by searching AQ. Quite a lot of old birds have shared their experience. Turn off one of the tube or remove the tube entirely. Make sure you got place to store the tube if you remove it. 3 tubes of lightings will suffice.

Meantime, you can wait for the tank to clear up and maintain actively on your filter. Should be two to maximum three weeks of wait time there.

I am using Eheim Ecco Pro 2032 for my filtration. I bought a UV Sterilizer and its showing significant improvement after running it for a day.

I will reduce the lighting to 2 tubes in the meantime till everything goes better.

I think he just temporary put there to clear up, no harm. He can keep it anytime and bring out when he needs it. Still good to have.

    Hi Guys,

Providing some updates. After running UV for a week. Water clearing up, it worked faster than expected. My Nerite snails are also crawling out lesser, seems to make the water more stable too. Now the thing is should i keep the UV running? or off it once things become more stable?

=) you could keep back to the box if you have not throw away yet, once you are at a comfortable state. Use a plastic bag to tie for the box. Chuck it somewhere, you will still need to use it at times. Equipments...hobbists keeps a lot of stuffs and a lot of them are saying they need a storeroom for those stuffs. Your tank would look nicer without one.
