Could it be something else in your tank that's causing it to crash?

For the past 1.5 years, I had a good run with the CRS. The CRS was doing so well, that I had to sell some so that it wouldn't over-populate my cube tank. For the past 2 months, my shrimps started dying everytime I change the water.
I only add anti-chlorine/chlormine solution, and let the water age for a week before I add the new water. Even so, I usually do very minimal water change. Still they die.
The only difference I note is that the new water lacks the "X" ingredient. The "X" ingredient was the solution that a kind forumer gave to me. When added the CRS thrives. But now, the solution is depleted. And I can't replenish the solution.
I can't remember the forumer's forum name. I think it is "Stone" or something. But I do know his name is Dennis, and he supplies the "solution" to the big aquariums.
So, I am seeking help through this forum.
Dennis, if you are reading may I know where and how can I buy this solution. Or, if anyone knows, please help.
If my remaining 9 shrimps all die.. I am afraid I'll be to disheartened to start again.
Please help, anyone. Thanks.

i would like to try this X solution if there's any. Main while, try to find out if there's anything wrong with your water.
Is it possible that the shrimps in your tank dies of old age?

I did all the usual pH, ammonia, and Nitrate tests. All within the norm.
For water change, use normal water (treated with anti-C) would be good enough right?
I really think it is the water, because everytime change water, shrimps die. So, must be something in our PUB water.

Hi sis, sorry to hear your CRS tank is having problems.
Have you considered using distilled water for now until you figure out what is wrong with the tank?
Its possible there is contamination or trace copper in the tap water in your area.

distilled water?? u mean those buy from shops in bottles to drink??

Go and check on your TDS and gH. I believed they are beyond the acceptable range.
hear from my sister that recently our tap water has alot of chlorine smell ( she's sensative to chlorine ). i'm wonder if its the problem.
I do agree that lately, our tapwater has a very strong smell of chlorine.

Any pictures of the X solution?

Happy New Year, folks.
The "X" solution, came without any labels. It came in a large plastic container.
What is TDS and gH? I don't think, I want to spend $$ to buy more testing kits.
Anyway, thanks for all the private messages, posts and recommendations. But wondering how could ADA soil be no longer effective as suggested by a fellow forumer in my private message. Wouldn't the nitrate test show anomaly? Well, definitely I know the soil is very old, because can see reddish sendiments on side of tank.
I have setup a new tank, and will see how. Got some C grade shrimps to test water.
Hope my remaining A-S will last long enough for me to port over to the new tank.
Otherwise, will breed C grades. hehe. Methinks they are more hardy and productive Then again...I think the X solution helps![]()

Your "X" solution is probably one of the Mosura brand items, which I believe is the one containing minerals for the shrimp. I think it's called Mineral Plus. You mentioned that it was in a large plastic container, and in solution form so that's what I think you're looking for.

OK. Have totally revamped the tank. Have decommissioned the cube tank. Combined the C grades with the remaining few A-S grades.
Here are some pictures of the new tank. At least the shrimps look happy now.
Thanks for all the advice.

hi,
nice setup..hope your crs safely..anyway what is the soil and plants you use?![]()

Thanks. Actually do not know what soil. A colleague got for me after I noticed that the soil he had, does not "cloud" when stirred. Only thing is that the soil is grey coloured pellets. Anyone knows?
The plants are just java ferns (one with the straight leaves, the other with the fancy leaves (looking like stag horns), amazon frogbits and one more plastic looking sea-weed. Sorry, don't know what they are called, as they were given.
Shrimps are all mixed together both C (very ugly) and A-S (very nice). Let them survive first and worry about separating later.
Cheers.

Hi
Simple but nice set-up
By the way how do you key the water cool for CRS don't see any fan or chiller around? Or it is in Aircon room?

Your soil is probably the NISSO soil.
