It looks like the stuff growing from your java fern is just java fern roots, they also produce plantlets from the leaf margins.
Lots of shrimp in there :-) you do know some will hybridize right ?
Also, how long have you had the Cardinal Shrimp ?

Hi Misery
hair algae or staghorn algae... Hmm
R they bad for my plant?
Hi Paid
I just bought my Cardinal Shrimp before CNY's Eve.
Hybidize? Meaning cross breed?
Wat will happen if they cross Breed?
Hope is root, they keep tangle up with my other plant....

My advice is to give the Malayan trumpet snails a miss totally.
They breed at an alarming rate, and are mostly considered an undesirable or pest snail. They can grow to plague proportions
and are hard to remove thereafter.
Cardinal Shrimp do best at high pH levels, and will probably not do well or survive in a tank with a soil substrate for long.
Crystal red shrimp and Cherry Shrimp (Sakura) will do ok.
These 3 species will not interbreed.

Just some info on wat cant be put together, see below link

Hi All
Noted on the breeding rate for the snail. I actually wanted it so that it can help to loose the soil. My soil had alot of food struck under it and my shrimp can't get it. Which cause a lot of white bug to start growing in the soil.
Hope my Cardinal Shrimp can last. They seem ok so far...
Looks like a type of staghorn algae to me. Staghorn normally do not get this long and curly, which means that your algae eaters may not be working hard enough.
They're bad for the plants as they'll cover and smother them. They also look very unsightly once they overrun the tank.
Take a read on this website. You should see staghorn about 1/4 of the way from the bottom of the page

Hi Navanod,
Indeed it is a staghorn.... and also hair algae spotted.
Had just manually remove most of it and discovered that some of my java fern leave had turn yellow.
The website you provide is very good.
Thank
Glad to be of some help. I managed to get rid of most of my staghorn before they grew long because I put in some BIG nerite snails. They're the ones without spikes and with brown and black swirl prints.
You can probably find them at C328. All the best with your tank bro, I like the way you made the hornwort look so nice.
Erm...the Cardinal shrimp...I don't think your water is suitable for it?

Hornwort?
Actaully the two long plants i have, i dunno the name for them.
You mean the snail will eat staghorn? I did saw my horn nerite snail sort of eating the staghorn but i not too sure. Anyway had redo and purne my plant abit... Attached a few photos.
The Cardinal shrimp seem ok and alive still... Actually trying them out in my tank.
I dont have any testing kit for my tank, not too sure wat the condition like inside the tank. So far so good... cherry breeding.
My Tiger, Bee, blue, CRS all survive too
But my blue and CRS shrimp had lose all her eggs. I bought 2 that are berried. But seem to lose all the eggs recently.

I think sometimes when you lose the eggs it may just be that they have turned into shrimplets. Good luck!
Sorry to hijack your thread Alex.
The Malayan Trumpet Snails (MTS) are also known as assasin snails right? It is used to get rid of other pest snails but MTS themselves are a pest snail as a result?
What are some good ways to get rid of pest snails (including MTS)? Mini-puffer fish is good but what do they feed on once the pest snail population diminished?
Back to Alex:
It appears you have Cherry and Sulawasi shrimps in a soil based tank. Cherry shrimps are comfortable at higher pH at about 7.0 region and Sulawasi shrimps are comfortable in even higher pH of about 7.5. Contrary, soil produces lower pH.

Helo Cookie,
I dont have MTS yet, so not sure of that.
But i have alot of small pond snail which i manually crush them and let my shrimp have a treat to escargot
All soil will lower the ph lvl? The shop i bought the Sulawasi shrimp also keep them in some soil base thing.
Hope my Sulawasi shrimp can tolerance the low ph.
Hi Purin,
I dont think it hatched, cos when i bought then, the eggs dont seem ready for hatching.. and just within 2 days, the eggs started to lesser....
Anyway, pray that you are right and new baby start coming out.
By the way guys, anyone keep any fishes with shrimps...
Any one have any advise.
If you want to breed shrimps, fish is not recommended. But you may add Otocinclus in the tank.
MTS "Melanoides tuberculata" is NOT the Assassin snail "Anentome helena".
Anentome helena reproduces very slowly and would never reach pest populations in a normal tank. They also look much nicer than the MTS.
Thats why the Anentome helena is useful as pest control. No point introducing a pest to control other pests right?
The other pest control you had mentioned (mini puffer), is only usable in certain types of tanks. The puffers themselves are not easy to keep and they attack shrimps so they cannot be kept with them
My mistake for not looking properly. I just did a search for both the shrimps you mentioned and they do look different. One (MTS) having a sharp pointed end while the other (assassin) has yellow and black stripes.
For the assassin snails (Anentome helena), what would you feed it after the pest snail population is wiped out?
I use to have 2 MTS in my tank 6 months back. it reproduce so fast that i think i have around 50 odd of them in my 3 feet shrimp tank now. i can pass you some junior MTS if you wants.
