I only have a pH test kit. I shouldnt have nitrates because i always add a solution that will remove nitrates.
I'm not sure what's wrong but at night when i test my pH it's close to seven, in the morning it drops drops drops to 6.5 or below. i'm going to wait to see if it goes up on its own in the day.

any thing to help me create a better buffer in my tank?

Usually when the lights are on, Ph will start to rise gradually. falls back during blackout. Small ph changes through the day should not harm inverts. Might want to watch out on your air flow for aeration if you are using aeration.

a resun canister filter and i added some activated carbon inside(with rain bar) and i also added a tiny air pump so aid in the reduction of CO2 at night).
    java moss mainly.
aiming 6.8 ( 2 days ago it hit almost 6)
gex red soil. but didnt give me any problems have been using for 3 months plus.

will throwing in a few pieces of coral chips do the trick?

Just throw some coral chips in will do. and keep track on the pH level. once reach desire pH, take our and leave 1-2 piece in. ( note: don't put all at once. do it slowly to let the pH increase gradually, you don't wish your fauna suffer from pH shock. )
