I agree with the chief mod.

NEA or Nparks are very careful , they only grant to all members of Dept Biological Science, NUS, the Singapore Bird Society and whatever animals societies.

Why must NEA or Nparks grant fish society a permit? fish watching in the jungles?

    "Enrichment Tour" > Yes
Getting Caught and fine for poaching or trespassing > NO!

Having Fun and being Poisoned and getting Educated at the same time > A BIG YES!

Anyway nothing is set yet so let's all continue with the poll and see how this goes

Not that I want to be a spoiltsport, but we do have the responsibility to help preserve what is left of our nature reserve. And if all of you wish to enjoy it, you should protect it as well.
The usual excuse/mentality of "what is catching a few fishes/ plants/ manimal going to affect the ecosystem" must change, same goes to what is happening outside Singapore (example, going to our neighbouring countries and doing the same action).

I'm not a naturalist nor a nature freak, but I would like to enjoy what is left of it.

    Re: Outing no3 for 2010

I keep seeing this 24km poping up in this thread, and although I would like to join the next outing, it will be a real killer trekking so long and so far in a deadly hot and humid day which will last till May by the meteo service.
Ever since MR (if you don't know what this is, then you still have many years ahead to enjoy the "greens") years ago, my last trekking was last year from Bukit Timah Hill to the newly opened Dairy Farm nature park,
and it was a 2-3 hours trek, but it is so tiring already, can't imagine the 24km. Wait till the poll is over then see how.

    Re: Outing no3 for 2010

    >"< Hmmm...now there is a running trail. Facing Bishan park right bottom, there is a traffic light junction, the trial leads all the way to Bukit Timah staircase, not the spiring road. If you can finish this staircase, you will be very good. Can't remember the exact route but it seems like a popular track for runners and bikers so along the way can still see people. But you can't bring radio, you can't on your iphone using speakers due to noise pollution to the nature. Anyway radio will not get much signal inside. Along the way you get to see monkeys, assuming they have not snatch your camera away.

After the Bukit Timah point will be the platform. After the platform is where you trek all the way till you hit Lentor Road. If you not careful, this is the place where magnetic interference will disable your compass and you can't lost your way easily. If you are very lucky, you will get the see the tomb with the blood stains (2nd World War). Then it's good luck to you. High chance you will be lost from this point onwards. If you are respectful and find your way around, you will still be able to see Lentor, but whether you can walk fast enough to reach Lentor, there is another matter.

Second place that you can hike is actually Pasir Ris Resort as start point, Pasir Ris Drive 12 as end point where the ice-cream man will be waiting for you at the playground. Along the way there will be a stream like place where you get to see mud skippers.

Third place for trekking is actually Pulau Ubin. Facing the jetty is police station, on the right of the Island sits Frog island. It is down slope all the way so coming back means you circle to the other end and come center down of the Island where you can pass the Granite quarry and the famous bridge which kills the guy who have no respect for nature. Don't know what he did but apparently he did something very disrespectful and the stream kept his body after heavy rain. The temple medium then pray for the stream to release his body and the request was acceded. The body was later returned to mainland by his friends. I've been there a few times myself, so far so good. Now quarry you will get to see fishes but do not catch them, if you are wary of retribution.

    Re: Outing no3 for 2010

Ok folks and mod in charges,

If we're fire-up to hike , I would like to suggest 2 places

    1.
Hike from Bt Timah to MacRitchie reservoir (HSBC Tree Top walk) and back.
Total appox walking time: 4-5 hrs. Good haven for bird lovers/ bird watching and occasionally will meet monitor lizards, monkeys and exotic insects.

Thereafter, we proceed Bt Timah Hawker Centre

    2.
    Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve http://www.sbwr.org.sg/biodiversity/flora/
A must for palu/viva enthusiasts, that's place is full of biodiversity and we 'll enjoy the hike.
Total appox walking time: 4hrs depend on you guys.

Thereafter, we all proceed to great Bak Kut Teh lunch at Kranji coffeshop

    What do you think, guys?
    cheers

    Re: Outing no3 for 2010

Anyone don't have a feel of what trekking is? I do have some photos with me. ^^ want me to show a few? Not all of course...Basically it was a time where I was with my ex-colleagues, roughly 10 years back. In the end, we declare "lost", not exactly lost just that end road is too far by the time we evaluate at 4pm (another 4hrs). Hence decided to declare lost for police to pick us up. The trekking place was MacRitchie
