Hello everyone. It seems like there's a couple of people who know mosses well on this forums so I thought someone might be able to help me identify this moss that I collected from a local lake in northern Illinois. I grew it from a tiny little piece and I've had it in my collection for a couple of years now and I really want to find out what species it is. I'm pretty sure it is a Fontinalis sp. but it doesn't look like antipyretica to me. Other than that I have no clue.

It looks almost like Fontinalis antipyretica to me. It could be a sub-species. If you really want to know the identity, mail some to me and I'll bring it to the professor. I think the professor will be quite happy to see your moss because it satisfies 2 conditions - One, it grows underwater and two, you know the country of origin.

    Re: Moss Id

I'm glad you guys like this moss. It has been able to stand temperatures in the 80F+ range so it should grow OK in Singapore but it does best in cooler temps.

I would definitely like to find out the real identity of this moss timebomb. I sent you an email regarding the details of sending the moss to Singapore.

If it's the first time you are sending moss to a person from another country, take a look at this post.
