Borrowed the book from library, and find it to be a invaluable guide to fellow members going to feed the fishes with live food but don't know how to go about culturing them.
A lot of libraries still have the book, so go and borrow them if interested.
The book covers culturing Brine Shrimp, Grindal Worm, Whiteworms, Dero Worms, Tubifex worms, Blackworms, Redworms, Bloodworms, and even Crustaceans, Insects, Algae and Mollusks (Snails).

Nice find. This is Michael Hellweg's first book on live food cultures. He has a second one, which is geared more towards reptile and amphibian keepers.

I should find a copy of this and have a look through. There's another live food manual called Plankton Culture Guide or something. That book is great for people who want to culture tiny fry food.

From the NLB catalogue, they have only one book by Michael Hellweg while the other newer 2009 book "Raising Live Foods" is available in amazon, and maybe in some bookshops here as well.

I just did a check on the NLB catalogue, and Jurong West library still has the book, if not, it is still available at AMK, Bishan, CCK, ChengSan, Geylang East, Marine Parade, Pasir Ris, Queentown, Seng Kang and Tampines library. Maybe one of them is near to your workplace.

The only copy at the nearest branch to me is on loan. I think I'm interested more on the culturing of those dero worms, which are apparently a miniature version of tubificid worms.

Checked on Kinokuniya's site and they don't have it either.

Stormhawk, since you live in Bukit Batok, it should be ok to get the book at CCK (2 MRT stops away) library, it is still available as of 10.40am today.

Re: Culturing Live Foods for the home aquarium

It's alright. I'll just wait till it's available at my branch library. Most of the info contained are available online on hobbyist sites, but the book is a worthwhile investment for people are keen on culturing at home.

I got some bananaworms, microworms, walterworms and vinegar eel cultures growing at home. They're just about the easiest things to culture.

Wah stormhawk, you got some many different types of worms and eels at home...
Plenty of live food for your fish no need to waste more $$$ on fish food...
Just need to keep the cultures going...

Re: Culturing Live Foods for the home aquarium

It's alright, my microworm culture is booming at the moment. Likewise with the rest of the others.

The mail order took 12 days to arrive because the seller sent by the slower Airmail option, instead of the shipping option I requested and paid for. Good thing was, there was enough critters in each starter cultures to get them going.

    JianYang,
Mind sharing the live culture source so that those interested can take the initiative to self-order.

Did the banana-worms survive shipment? What are you using to culture that with? Bananas???
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,

    Edward,
I thought you just bought an entire tube of tubi? ^^" Hope they still survive after the Iwa workshop.

    Michael:

heh not tubi, a pack of Daphnia =) more than half were dead though but I split the pack into an empty tank which I'm keeping tubifex worms alive with sponge filter, an plastic tub with aeration, and another tank I left on the balcony filled with green water.

    Hope they survive too
