If yours is a small setup, then root tabs should work quite well for you.
They can be inserted where you intend to plant so they are quite cost effective.

I can only tell you about the WonderGro Pro Root+ tablets but I cannot say for other root tablets though.
Each tablet is effective around a 5cm radius, so you just need to insert one tablet around the area which you intend to plant. If you are intending to plant your whole aquarium with Hairgrass (taking into account hardscape), you should need around 15-20 tablets.
Thanks,
Ben

Root tabs are mainly to suppliment heavy root feeding plants if not they should take in ferts from the water column, throught their leaves. As for hair grass, im bot really sure if they NEED root tabs. Although echindorus are usually heavy root feeders, i dont see HG roots go deep into soil. Dosing water column ferts should be enough.
Personally i use root tabs in my tank but the growth at where the tabs are placed is not much different from where they aren't
Cheers,
JJ
