    Corrections if I may:

Compressor: A compressor is not cold the moment it is turn on. It will needs time to "cool down" before it can reduce the temperature of the water. Bare in mind that this process will comsume the most power and it depends on how long it needs to chill the coils, like people comparing how many seconds needed for a car to reach 100km/h.The shorter, the better.
A compressor works by compressing the refrigerant. When this refrigerant return back to it's liquid condition (expansion) heat is absorbed making it surounding cold. Cooling of the tank water is done by passing through the cold refrigerant during the expansion stage.

Power: The wattage means the power required to drive the compressor. It directly means pay more bills to PUB, BUT might not be true if the top two criteria is met, compared to others whom failed them.
Power is consumed by both the fan and compressor which is indicated in your bill. This power consumed doesn't mean your cooling power. Some ineffiecient needs more power to cool.

Noise: as far as I understand, it is mainly caused by the internal fan use to cool the heat generated from the compressor. You should experience less noise if the manufacturers use Brushless instead of ball bearings fans.
The fan is mainly to cool the heat exchanger. Brushless fans are main DC fans
    Cheers!!

The Korean brand chiller come in 4 models. The power rating and the recommended tank size is as follow :
    70W - 3ft and below
    110W - 4ft
    150W - 5ft
    200W - 6ft and above

You notice that the power rating is MUCH lower than any other brand in the market. What is your view on this? Does it necessary means that it will take twice the cooling time?

Just wondering, if there's some LFS who comes out with their own chillers and much more cheaper than other branded chillers, will you guys be interested?? But I think it'll be more for freshwater usage rather than salt water. Heard that they are at testing stage now.

Pardon my ignorance, How do you connect the chiller (1 hp) and mh lights (2x150W) together on the same power point? Wont the circuit breaker trip due to the sudden power surge?

overheard: $1500 thereabouts. (for 1.25 HP) which is cheap.
    ----------------

    Did you recheck the prices???

    A quote from the manufactor:

    >>>>
We have two range of chillers: Titanium and Reef Relief and our Special Promotion is for our 1/2 and 1.25hp units.

    Reef Relief range of chillers:
    1/2 hp : S$1200
    1.25hp: S$1750

    Titanium range of chillers:
    1/2 hp : S$1500
    1.25hp: S$2050

The difference? The Titanium chillers have:

    1. 100% Titanium cooling coils for maximum cooling power and safety.
    2. Receiver/filter dryer for maximum efficiency in refrigerant usage (unlike any competitor)
    3. Phenolic Coated heavy duty condenser coils and low noise fans
    4. One decimal point digital temp. controller eg. Display shows '20.3'
    5. Heavy duty, anti-scratch power coated casing with handles.

    Reef Relief
    1. Epoxy coated copper coils (same as Teco chiller)
    2. Phenolic Coated heavy duty condenser coils and low noise fans
    3. One decimal point digital temp. controller eg. Display shows '20.3'
    4. Heavy duty, anti-scratch power coated casing with handles.
    >>>>

    The 1.25hp Ti-chiller is no where near $1.5K []

1hp is 743w so power used is 1043w. even if the chiller is only 50% efficient, the total power required will be about 1800w. around the power consumption of an electric kettle.

just connect like normal electrical applicance and nothing to worry about.

    Or DC Fan.

Specifically, we're talking about those small PC cooling fans (AC or DC). They come in 8cm, 9cm and 12cm square.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

    Hmmm........

I have a build in fish tank(inside a wall). the temp. goes as high as 32 cent. and low of 30 cent. How much lower is I use AC/DC fan assuming I use 2 fans?

i believe those who are using fans can bring the temperature down by 2-3 deg c. it depends on the ambient temperature and can go to about 26 deg c during the raining season. however, the main drawback is increase evaporation.

I was told DC fans are much quieter.

I foresee a problem : your tank is build in, there isn't much ventilation, I doubt using a fan helps much.

    Adding on to Jacian's reply...

One possibility is to cut holes in the wall above the tank and install fans over them to circulate the air.... one in, and one out at opposite ends. Then a few more fans blowing on the water.
