yes, mine also like that so I replace it with canister.
Dear all,
Do you all notice that after you off the power and on it again, the "water" compartment need to be top up with water in order for it to "suck" water from the tank.
Am i the one who faced it or you all facing the same thing?
What my worry is when they is a power trip at home or interupt of power supply and no one is there to top-up the water compartment, will the pump(moter) be over-headed and cause a fire. Worst is when the filter is not working, it may affect the life stock.

yes, mine also like that so I replace it with canister.
the dolphin brand and eheim ones i use have no issues. Technically speaking, once you off, there should still be water inside the filter. the water inside will aid in the suction of the filter once you on it again, unless you emptied out the water inside the filter also.
i let it run then just off the power supply.
After power on again, it just dont pump water.
My Jebo & Ehiem 2040 facing the same problem.

Once i off the hof, then after doing some work i on again, still working as normal, but only after some noise....
I using GEX hang on filter also this problem. Need to top up water if off & on power or power trip.
Sorry all, i make a mistake on the Ehiem HOF.
Today i dismentle the OHF & i notice there is actually a "MIN" water level marking on the suction pipe, only then i know that i have to fill tank water to that level in order for it to work properly.
Thanks all for the reply
