We all know about the news. The siberian tigers died of hunger in a particular zoo. http://www.todayonline.com/World/Glo...o-death-in-zoo

Now the breaking news. True or not?

Local people made a tiger sculpure in front of the Shenyang Forest Wildlife Zoo.

In the private zoo in Liaoning Province where 11 Siberian tigers have died, zookeepers have been making illegal tiger-bone liquor from the tiger corpses, the Beijing News reported Wednesday.

A staff member of Shenyang Forest Wildlife Zoo who didn't want to be named said on March 14 that they had made illegal tiger-bone liquor since 2005. "I made tiger-bone liquor myself and presented it as a gift to high ranking officials from the local forest department and the public security bureau," admitted the person. "It has become an open secret."

Rare and endangered, Siberian tigers are listed as first class nationally-protected animals, which means the dead bodies of tigers cannot be disposed at random. According to China's law on the protection of wildlife, autopsies should be carried out immediately after the death of a tiger, and the dead tiger should be stored locally.

According to the Beijing News, some 40 to 50 tigers have died in the zoo since 2000. To preserve the dead tigers, the zoo need to have a refrigerator for each body, which cost thousands of yuan in electricity per month.

In the past three months, tigers at the Shenyang Forest Wildlife Zoo starved due to severe malnutrition, resulting in 11 dead and three seriously ill, a preliminary investigation showed. However, the current wildlife protection law has no provision on how to deal with the zoo owners who didn't fulfill their obligations in feeding the animals which led to the deaths of the rare animals. Therefore, the owners who are responsible for the tigers' welfare may even escape punishment.

The Wildlife Rescue Team organized by the Shenyang government announced on Tuesday that its expert team has finished an inspection of the tigers, especially the three severely ill ones, and had come up with a plan to treat the animals. Currently, all the tigers except one are showing positive signs with their spirits, appetites, and activity.

A local safety inspection bureau team has been discussing operation of the outdoor area for the tigers in the zoo to make sure they can put the animals back in the outdoor enclosure within three days.

if the tigers starved to death, how good can the tiger bone wine be?

Good enough for some dimwits who believe in its medicinal properties. They probably don't know it's just calcium after all.

Even if the tigers were well fed, will it make a difference?

No difference, except the malnourished ones died a needless death, and the well-fed one if killed a poacher, just as much a needless death in itself.

People need to see that Tigers are just Tigers. Not some walking sack of medicinal parts and/or fur coat/fur carpet meant for the butcher's knife or the poacher's rifle..
