Hi, I'm thinking of getting a 2.5x2.5x2ft(h) tank.

Please advise what type of lights to use?

Can the cooling of the water be done by using fans?

    How many canisters to use?

I'm thinking of using an external CO2 reactor and will this be sufficient?

    All inputs are well come.

    Re: Square tank.

for lights, you might need T5HO or MH because of the depth (2 feet).
survival of flora over fauna? or the other way round?
cooling of tank will depends on your choice of fauna and flora in your tank.
1 high flow rate ( 1300litres per hour ) external will be enough.
you may face difficulty planting your plants in your subtract. ( too high)
you might need up to 3 bags of 8-9 kg soils.
