Dear all,
Recently bought a Eheim 2224 for my 2 footer. However, the inlet is too tall for my 40cm high tank. Question is, is it advisable to cut the inlet pipe myself so that the "U" portion does not sit above the tank sides?
Hope you guys can understand what I am saying. Otherwise, I will take a photo tonight.
What other options are there other than changing the in/outlets to the lilypipe options.

Adding picture... I want the "U" portion to sit nicely on the tank side. Now it is hanging in the air.

You can switch the direction of the pipe, the long one inside the tank, the short one outside the tank, too long just saw to the length you want. It should rest on the tank edge.![]()

If you don't feel like cutting, slant the pipe towards one direction, so that the U-section rests directly on the edge of the tank glass. If not, just cut. I did that for my 2026 and it works fine. I just used a normal handsaw to do the job. Probably a heated sharp knife blade can do the same thing.
When you cut, do give some leeway for some extra length so that you have a margin for error. Because if you cut too short, the end result might be ugly and you may end up thinking of throwing the hole J-pipe away and getting a new one. Alternatively, just use the Eheim Installation Sets. They have adjustable lengths for both Intake and Output and for the correct hose size or diameter so you don't have to do any cutting. IIRC, the item is in semi-transparent black plastic. Should look pretty nice in a tank with black Oyama paper backing.

ADrian/stormhawk,
Thanks for feedback. I do not feel like cutting but the installation set is going to set me back around another $80 i think. Might go for the installation set in the end since I don't like the green pipe.![]()
I think the installation set for the intake alone costs less than $80 for the hose size on the 2224. I remember seeing them for a reasonable price at C328, but I think any store that stocks Eheim parts will have them at decent prices. It's probably close to $70+ - 80 if you buy both intake and output sets.
From what I recall, the intake set costs less than $50 I think. I wanted to get one myself for my 2026 but decided against it since I can live with the ugly green J-tube.![]()

oh yes, I was referring to both in and out. Since spending $40 already might as well spend another $40 to get rid of the green pipes.
If budget is a problem, get the inlet side of the Installation set. Simple to start a siphon with this item.

I cut it before using a hand saw, after that just use a scissor to smoothen the edges.
