Here is 2 pics of my apisto viejita currently residing in my 2ft planted tank. Not sure if they are viejita or macmasteri!? Sorry for the bad photos they are still very difficult to shoot.

Simply put, it is hard to tell both species apart even at first glance. They are so similar and most, if not all of the "viejita/macmasteri" in the hobby are possibly hybrids of the two species.

Yeah storm's right. It's it's not wild, there's a high chance it's a hybrid of both. Here's a general write up on differentiating them.

According to the DATZ book, even wild specimens of both species are known to show intermediate characteristics of both species, and thus causing a degree of confusion to the collectors in the wild.
