Automatic Water Top Up System

Hi,

Anyone has experience in using auto water top up system ? For tanks using fans - where you need to top up water daily.

I saw this system at DE lightings website

Someone actually had touch on this topic before. from what i feel it worth the money. 150 divide by 365. 1 day cost less than 50cents. But i guess that its more useful for tank bigger than 2 feet. For nano will be over powered.

just a thought after looking at the site.

can i just put a pump in the bucket of water beside my tank (i have one where i store water with air pump in it and use it for water change), connect a tube from pump to tank, pump operates by timer setting, no water level sensor but we know roughly how much water needs to be top up daily. pump runs for maybe just one min or so using timer setting, depending on tank size and amount of water needed. so here i have a simple and cheap way of auto top up, hehe... only risk is timer up lorry but the most only one buck of water overflow and who can guarantee sensor won't spoil too?

The issue with your method is that the volume of water pumped into your sump is fixed but the amount of water evaporated in your sump will vary, depending on how hot the weather is. This may or may not be an issue, but it is definitely an idea worth thinking about Thanks for the great idea!

i came across another site where he top up the evaporate water through drip method. maybe a drop a minute. but for this case you need a higher tier or a small bottle on the rim to work. ( think too much of my overflow system for the pass 2 weeks )

If the timer malfunction and got stuck at the 'on' position. The pump may drain all the water and continue to run... dry... it may overheats and cause fire.

Just to update this thread. I have been using the auto top up system from DE Lightings (shop at Jln Kayu, near to sea view) for about 5 over months now and it works wonderfully. Water in my 6 feet tank evaporates like crazy but I just need to top up water once a week. Of course you would need to have a relatively large reservoir. I typically top up about 4 pails of water (the large pail that you can purchase at sundry shop).
