Was taking our a piece of drift wood for cleaning and suddenly saw something that looks like worm peeking out of a hole on the wood. Thought it is worm but it's response was lightning quick! I put it in the water and observe it sliding around the piece of wood from hole to hole.

Removed the moss and started fixing the snake. First I use salt water but it refuse to come out, then I use warm water and it wriggle out of the hole into the pail.

It was going bersek in the pail like wanna bite something!!

Morale of the story : Becareful of drift wood you bought, you might get more than what you ask for!

I do not think that you have a baby snake in the driftwood. It is highly likely that you found a caecilian instead. A photograph of the critter will be good for identification. In any event, do not kill it.

Since it probably escaped from the pail, you better start searching your home for it. If it happens to be the young of a cobra species, you are in deep trouble.

Look very much like it but it is missing now. If it is really caecilian, then it explains now why my shrimplets have not been increasing eventhough I have shrimps laying every other week.

If it was a caecilian, that will be a pretty rare find!

I don't see why you need to censor the name of the LFS. It's pretty obvious which LFS it is. If we feel it's not appropriate to mention, we will remove this anyway. If want to mention the shop name, mention it. If you don't want to, then don't. Censoring the name like that suggests some level of deceit on your part.

We do not like deceit on AQ. So please refrain from such behaviour. If in doubt, just ask us.

I found one in a friend's flowerpot some years ago and he was living on the ground floor. It was probably a Blind Snake rather than a caecilian but they all look the same to me.

    To Shrimpong:

Just don't kill the animal, be it a snake, caecilian or some other thing. Release it if you will because it never meant harm to you nor your family. However, it is wise to search for it. If it dies in your home for some reason, it will attract ants and other pests to the carcass.

As for finding weird creepy crawlies in driftwood with moss/Anubias etc., I've had my fair share of getting weird stuff with the driftwood. Wood lice, a big Daddy-Long-Legs Spider, Wolf Spiders and of course the random baby cockroach.

    hope shrimpong can find it.

I had a snakey experience last month too. I was opening up my son's tent and found a curled up dried baby snake in it. it was about 4-6 inches in length. too dried up to see which species. the tent was bought from IKEA in 2006 but has never been opened before.

ah ha, stormhawk bro is a kind soul. still can't find it. Does caecilian move at lightning quick speed? The little friend was seriously quick.

Probably a blind snake. They don't get very big, I have handled a few when I was in primary school a few decade ago.

Looks like it but does blind snake lives in the water? Coz that piece of drift wood had been in the water for 2 months already. I regret putting it into the shrimplets tank. That might explain my shrimplets population had been depleting.

Was the driftwood in submerged condition when you first bought it? Please don't kill it! I will remove it from you if you want to get rid of it.
