what are the essentials for apisto breeding tank?

Hi,

my borelli is breeding in my 2.5 ft community tank, but due to the other fishs, the eggs didn't have a chance. now thinking of setting up a dedicated apisto breeding tank. would appreciate some advice.

this is what i'm thinking of:
1.5ft tank
small internal filter
thin layer of gravel
one breeding cave (ceramic)
one male & one female

What i think is not necessary:
No lights
no plants

Do you guys think this is workable? I'm concerned about lack of oxygen. should i get an air pump as well?

My current setup for my Apistogramma trifasciata n Apistogramma Hoignei.

2x 1ft tank each for 1 pair.
2x Sponge filter for biological n as well to provide something for the fry to eat if unable to feed.
2x Driftwood with willow moss n java moss n taiwan moss tied on for spawning site for the female.
2x thin layer of gravel.
1x 2ft light with Arcadia Tropical Lamp shared among 3 tanks.

Nursery Tank (Currently Nursing A. Trifasciata Fries)
15 inches tank
1x Ehiem Liberty 100
2x Driftwood with moss tied on
1x 2inch gravel
Plants
2x A. Barteri

I would use an air-powered sponge filter rather than a power filter. Small fry can easily be sucked into a power filter, and you don't want that to happen do you?

This solution would also provide adequate oxygenation via surface agitation.
