Hi guys,I'm planning to feed my co2 directly to the inlet of my canister filter and I wondering if it's a good idea to diffuse your co2.I tried ceramic difusser and external reactor but it's not as effective.. Will co2 kill the good bacteria in the filter or ??any suggestion?? My tank is 3ft..

    Re: Co2

it is possible to feed co2 directly into your canister filter. however, there is risk of air-lock. the impeller compartment is filled with air and/or co2 so the pump head may overheat and gets damaged.

external reactor should be very effective in dissolving co2.
what have you tried to do to conclude your observations? did you try measuring co2 concentration?

lots of bros use ceramic diffuser and external reactor with no problem. perhaps you should measure the co2 levels in your 3 ft tank before drawing any conclusion? it is definitely possible to feed co2 direct into canister filter, but as above mentioned, there is quite a risk of air lock. plus, your filter will be noisier due to the air bubbles inside.

external reactor will probably be able to solve your problem.

I did that without problem in the past. But now I am doing it with power head since I don't use canister filter anymore.

    Hi ScorpionX86

You can build your own using Rex's DIY. The Aqua Medic 1000 is popular.

Can you describe why diffuser and external reactor are "not as effective"? What do you keep in your tank?

    Hi dcwk

Check out Tom Barr's (plantbrain's) discussions about "misting." It is more efficient because the tiny CO2 mist bubbles make it easier for plants to use this gaseous form of CO2 than CO2 dissolved in the water.
