I think your setup is fine. Just monitor monitor them for aggression. Meanwhile, look for a female. Nothing beats the joy of seeing the female herding a school of fries in apisto keeping. Moreover, you have the breeding cave ready for that to happen, don't waste it!

Go back to C328. Or check with Biotope or Yishun aquastar. Cacatuoides are a fairly common specie so it will not be difficult to find females for your males.
Uncle at C328 is the one incharged of the apisto stocks. His knowledge on them is not so good. There were times I pointed out to him the females were males but he keeps saying they are confirm females because his supplier says so. So the best is not buy when in doubt because some sneakers are hard to differentiate.

Double red or triple reds are just trade names. They are the same. Infact I don't think there are names like double reds. Even if the ventral fins do not have the red markings, they are still considered cacatuoides "triple red" if the dorsal and tail fin is red in color.

Ok will head down to biotope on monday![]()

Just make sure you are able to just net the females before going down. You wouldn't want to buy another pair and end up with 3 males.

Have decided to remove both of them and place them in their own individual tanks after seeing their fin are torn![]()

Could be a female if the forward part of the pelvic is black in colour.
Let it settle down in your tank first as it is still very stress up in the bag.

Yeah. I too think there is a chance for this piece to be a female. Some cacatuoides female does exhibit slight lyrate tail.

This is the new setup for my Ap.Caca til my custom tank arrived. Removed all the ferns and moss, leaving only moss ball behind.
