Some short Echinodorus genus are nice for a tank. They are not stem plants hence will not grow tall infinitely. They are commonly referred to as swordplants. Oriental is very nice and you may want to consider.

How about Hair Grass? Can create a Amano-like aquascape looking like an open field... Hair Grass needs more than average lighting. But it will never reach the top.

Common names? Most of us who can suggest plants to you only know the scientific names, except the really common ones like Java Fern, etc. Besides, sometimes common names are not specific enough that the LFS will know exactly which plant you talking about. Best bet is to ask to go to a knowledgable LFS and ask for easy, short/middle height plants.

Use www.tropica.com and www.dennerle.de plant catalogs to find the plants you want. Tropica has an Advance Search which allows you to find plants by max height, light req, ease, etc. but the pictures are water-colour paintings. So use the name list you got from Tropica and search Dennerle for the real pictures. You can always print them out and show the LFS.

Some plants to try: crytocorynes, marsilea quadriflorus(spelling?), lobelia, anubias, java ferns, moss, lotus, tenellus.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

But of course if no course then i shall go thru e hard way & print out then go to e LFS, but notice most LFS which has cheap pricing is not knowledgable at all. []
