Wat's the Diff btw FL and PL lites? Wat is that use for

Currently I am rearing fish and has a Everyday(brand) 2 feet light. Wat type of light is that?

For fish keeping, wat light to use?

Hi Wind,

Not very sure what lites you have, hope you don't me giving it go to answer you.....

The light tubes you have should be the common FL tubes which is the straight cylindrical type (used in most households). Length should be 1.5 ft with a wattage of 15W each tube.

The PL tube is shaped like a 'U' used in table lamps. The ones mentioned are 36W.

For a fish only tank, the light is not critical. As long the lights are bright enuff for viewing is sufficient.

if you need to change the fl tube, try to bring along the tube to the shop.
i think aquarium fl tubes are about 0.25" shorter that normal household fl tubes.
my 2' big boy tubes are shorter which i didn't know until i bought the normal household fl as my replacement tubes.

tawauboy: I don't think it's aquarium lights that are shorter but the tube that comes with the boyu light. I had the same prob with mine, but another fl tube I bought can still be squeezed in with a bit of effort. or you can unsrew the holder and shift it back a little. anyway I modified mine to fit a 36W PL tube.

Wind,

FL and PL are both florescent tubes. Difference is the size and wattage of the tubes. An 18" PL tube is rated at 36W and a 24" FL tube is rated at 18~20W.
