Currenly i setting up a tank with HC and US fissidens, however, my friend gave me some yamato shrimps and seems like they are feasting on the plants. Is it true or am i just seeing things?

Are yamato shrimps very fierce shrimps?

They are greedy shrimps but not fierce. However, a gang of 4 or 5 may attack very weak and near dying fishes, dragging the fish to the bottom to be eaten.

As for eating plants...not likely...they're just picking of slime/algae/bacteria and whatever is trapped on the plants so in fact they're cleaning your plants for you.
That's what made them so popular after all, after Amano introduced these as very good cleaners for planted tanks.
If you have timid tankmates, you may have to feed more because the yamato tends to "runaway" with whatever food they can carry, and hide somewhere to eat, depriving the other tankmates a chance to share.

if you planted your HC strand by strand, then better to remove the yamato cos they like to graze in that areas and may cause the HC to be uprooted. however, if you planted your HC by cutting up the wool into small cubes and planting the whole cube, should not be an issue.

My HC are safe. They are on the US fissidens. And some were pulled out of the wire mesh. But then, they are cleared some dust and soil on the fissidens. Pros and cons. Don't know what to do.
